State ID Tag Issues

I CAN'T SAY WHAT I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO ABOUT THEM!!!

We were forced to start tagging all our animals by the State in 1990. We needed our animals to be identified from wild ones. We now are only allowed to use State issued tags that we have to pay a Vet to put in and we pay for the tags. The money just keeps going out.



Then all animals tagged had to go into a State inventory list. One died and guess what we have to have a vet to write out a certificate to prove it is dead to remove it from our inventory. The money just keeps going out.



Well then we had to pay the state for this SERVICE so they could pay for the program. The animal tax started at $3.00 per head fawn to adult. Eight years later we now pay $32. a head tax. The money just keeps going out.



The adgenda is clear to me. If we can't get rid of them with regulations in Montana we will tax them out of business. This is the Montana way of doing business with an industry they don't want.



People when will we stop letting them make us prove our animals are as healthy as cattle and let us be alternative livestock? My guess is never as long as we keep on taking what they dish out. We are playing right into the hands of people that are not our friends. In my case we are under the Fish and Game. I know livestock people will help us.

We have metal TB tags on our deer that are put on by the vet. Since we are TB certified, we only test every third year so our younger deer do not have the metal tags. All of our deer have microchips which are recognized as a unique ID. These are easy to insert in fawns. We also put a small plastic tag on the fawns so we know we've chipped them, but those can be removed and replaced when they get older.

We have been using RFID tags for our official ID since they first were available. They are about the size of a quarter but thicker. We tag our fawns at 1-2 days old and lose very few tags. We make sure that they are deep in the ear. They are approved by the state (Ohio) and we put them in ourselves. Microchips are not approved for Ohio.
