HI everyone - first post...  love the forum.  I've owned a deer ranch for a few years now in Southeast Louisiana.  Don't have that many deer (20).  lost over half of our fawns to EHD last yr.   i was wondering if anyone else has tried planting Sudan grass to help with EHD...  it makes sense...  ck this out:

but then someone on another forum wrote (and this kind of makes sense if its true)

what do you all think?  anything else other than a misting systems that you feel works for gnats?  praying they come up with a bullet proof vaccine this yr...

thx!

some deer will go right under... Some need incentive.  I've got bottle feeds that never hesitated to walk under the first time they approached it.   Best bet is to hang up high so they can go under without being touched and move it down over time

Gnats may be daytime but midge flies are nocturnal and that's what carries the ehd virus not gnats we start fogging right before dark and also have the permethrin drips in some of our pens just don't use cotton rope it draws the chemical out to fast

Has anyone explored with planting things (food, grass, bushes) that they feel reduced the EHD deaths in the past? the deer either laying in it or eating it seems to be working for some people to prevent EHD...    I've heard that sudan grass works.  I've heard that lab lab sorghum works...  what do you guys think?

Mint (Menth spp.).....Marigold (Tegetes spp.)........Lemongrass ( Cymbopogon citratus ) this is some if the things we use.
