Swollen jaws

Hello I have 3 fawns that I’m rehabbing. They are about 7 weeks old now and have been having random swelling on their cheeks. Sometimes worse than others. The knots are hard. I thought (until I started reading about this) it might’ve been some abscess so I gave them 2 cc penicillin orally every other day a few times. (It was 48 hour penicillin) then I read maybe it was worms so I gave 1/4 cc ivermec orally. This was Sunday. Sunday night the one with the worst swelling was drooling and kind of coughing. She doesn’t eat quite as much as the other two and isn’t as energetic. I can get her to nibble on bananas but she acts like her jaws hurt. Any suggestions?

I don’t think it’s “lumpy jaw” we’ve never had any case of that on our property and it’s hard swelling not soft and pus like.

Hard swelling on the jaw line is still fuso bacterium and pen doesn't work well on that. Try Draxxin on it But it is very hard to cure as damage has been done to the jaw bone.

Jack Just wondering. Is fuso more common in bottle babies? I haven’t seen but *maybe* one case on our property and that was 7 years ago. I don’t have draxxin I gave a small dose of la300 Thursday night. Is la300 good for fuso? If so how much/how often. Like I said I wormed Sunday hoping it was bottle jaw and nothing has helped.

Yes more in fawns as they haven't built an immunity to it. The bacterium is in your ground so only gets worse as time goes by because when puss pockets break it enters the ground. As far as treating with LA 300 just follow the pound rate think it is 4 cc per hundred and do every 48 hours. so 1 cc per fawn at about a fawn rate of 25 pounds I still would try to get Draxxin as I know it would work better.
