As far as to answer your question, yes, we are required to test all of our animals even though they are dying from EHD which is a $25 fee per animal. Not only do you lose animals, but it costs you to lose animals because our 'wonderful' Department of Agriculture needs their piece of the pie too. Just to add another little note, I recently submitted 8 samples for testing for CWD from deer we know died of EHD. And being a certified technician, along with many others in this state, I sent a bill to the Dept of Agriculture, $25 per sample totaling $200 as a fee for pulling their samples. Have not heard nothing back from the Dept of Agriculture as of today. And as of today I have more samples in the refrigerator for them and will be submitting a bill along with those samples also when picked up. How big of a can of worms I opened, I don't know. And at this point, I don't much care.
