Who hunts high fence, who doesnt, who breeds to what? Not gonna matter in ten years if educating the general public with the facts on the CWD issue isnt first and foremost to all in the breeding industry. These are rules and regulations enforced by the states that are totally absurd. Just think it would only take a handful of farms in a few places in this country to test positive and hundreds of herds would be euthanized due to trace out laws.......

Well that does suck for the deer as they may NOT have been infected either.I think they may have made the right call and mabey saved all of the LEGAL farmers in texas and other states that obey the law...I mean these folks sure didnt help themselves or anyone else by breaking the law and bringing deer in from another state with testing!!!

That is scary but you are so right. We need more hunters on our side instead of voting against us over CWD issues. Good post Steve

It seems that the CWD hysteria continues. EHD and anthrax will kill more deer in Texas than CWD ever will, and predators more than all of the above. They have no perspective on this.

what a rediculous thing to do.......I could see putting the farm under some type of restrictions while watching to see if any animals become sick.......this is crazy to just go in and wipe out someones entire herd because they brought an animal in form arkansas. I understand there doing ther best to keep the disease from entering the state but this is over kill!! I should would like to hear the outcome of the testing on these animals........I would be willing to bet they are cwd free.

Thats the sad part Dennis to the entire CWD issue. I'd be willing to bet state wildlife departments have killed more deer looking for CWD than the disease has itself.

LiveOak - you have the right!!! Here in WI they definitely have. I don't believe Arkansas has ever had a case of CWD - so why would they think these deer had it??? Do northern states slaughter any deer brought from the south in case it has EHD??? I don't think so.

Someone should reprimand the newscaster for a false statement as he states that (CWD is a fatal illness that has wiped out tens of thousands of deer in other states.) this statement is false and is intended to inflame more animal rights activists.

If you contact APHIS in Ames Iowa you will find that he added some zeros on.

It is this type of rhetoric that keeps the fire burning.

I would like a count of deer that are confirmed to have died from CWD - I think the number would be pretty low. Just because we've killed one that tests positive, the deer may have lived for years and died from something else first! Again, how many confirmed positive deer are there that they can say with certainty, died from CWD. I'm not sure there are any other than perhaps at Fort Collins.

Perhaps the Texas DNR was making a statement! I feel so bad for the deer they did nothing. Talk about cruilty to animals.

I don't know how much authority game wardens have in other states but in Texas I do. If you've ever drove through Texas I'm sure you've read the signs on the highways "Don't Mess With Texas". Very good advice. I don't mean to sound sarcastic saying this.

Yeah well if your game wardens in Texas are like any of the others in the states they are the biggest outlaws out there only they are carrying a badge!! Sorry Scrape but it is the thruth....there are more bad ones out there than good ones......the ones here in PA could care less about the wildlife....there more interested in what kind of vehicle they get to drive and stupid stuff like that.

I agree willows.....this is what I thought as well....someone was pissed that they broke the law and their jail time was not enough punishment for them so they wanted to make a point......at the poor deers expense of course!!!!!

I know a LOT more details than has been mentioned. Still, I'm sure there's even more than I know about this man/case. I have to learn more details before I can place blame and most likely never will know why this happened. I do have an opinion and think several things brought this about. The deer brought in from out of state just being one of them.

Scrape,

No offense, but the man, nor the crime is the issue. You know as well as I do there were tons of deer brought in from CWD infected areas before the borders were closed and I'm sure there's been plenty brought in since. The issue is the ease at which a state agency destroyed a deer herd based on a CWD isssue which shouldnt be anymore of an issue than EHD or BT in reality.

The men deserved the punishment they were issued. The deer did not for any reason. I would say those deer werent going anywhere anytime soon and I believe the owners knew for a while now (atleast a year) there wasnt going to be any money made off of these deer yet they still fed and took care of them. TPWD couldve very easily mandated 100% testing on any deceased deer and observed them for CWD symptoms for however long they chose.

The problem is I really expected more up to date measures from TPWD on this issue instead of using the same ol ignorant song and dance thats been played out before. Hopefuly TDA will get some legislation passed that will help prevent this sort of thing in the future.

Steve, no question about your thoughts. There is still a family harmed behind this action that happened. Wife and children (if I remember correctly). In no way am I condoning this action. We both know different steps could have been taken. This farm could have/should have been quarantined the day the illegal deer were brought in if this is the basis behind all of this. I'm one county and 40 miles from all of this..that county and mine will lose more deer this year from poaching and illegal hunting than all recorded deaths from C.W.D. not counting ones shot to "isolate" certain areas. Furthermore, I don't send messages on the computer that I don't expect to be read by anyone and "everyone". I will say it. This was a police action. It would not surprise me one iota that this decision was heavily influenced by other "Texans" if you can read between the lines.

scrape. Should the seller be help acct, also???? I think so/hope so

How could a seller be held accountable???

Once a deer is sold.... I can't control where it goes....or even know if someone went somewhere else with it.
