Too Narrow to Breed???

Ok boys, lets hear it. I'm thinking about picking breeders. Here is a Slammer 2 year old we call Rolling Stone. He has everything EXCEPT width and is probably only 15-17 inches inside. He has a great pedigree and is Maxbo 727 over Kuhns Willy over Bucky. He is designed to be wide and may or may not throw that.

When looking at this deer I try to keep in mind that we TB tested in April and many of our deer got stressed and nicked up in velvet and seem to be narrower because of it. :(

What are everybody's thoughts on this 2 year old? I love EVERYTHING about him except for the width. Last year he was a 6X5 and scored 189. I am guessing him in the 275-300 range so far this year. :) He looks like a 10X7

He has a lot of mass going for him. Put him with the right doe and I am sure the width would come. He is a great looking buck even if he is a little on the narrow side. who knows next year he might come on strong he has a good base to build on.

Just my thoughts,

Chris

Breed with him Sam. Maxbo 727 is getting it done all over the country. Big sons and his daughters are doing the same. No reason to think his sons will not pass these genetics along. It may not sell well until he proves himself but it will surely produce you some really good bucks. I have used Maxbo 727 and well pleased.

Great looking buck if you ask me. Lots of tine length and extras that are mostly up. Sounds like he's bred to be wide and there may have been some stress that could have set him back short of his true potential. I would plow straight ahead with this buck and not look back.

Sam,

Looks like from everyones opinion you have a new breeder.

I am partial to big typicals with a few extras. I would breed this buck to a Show Stopper doe bringing Willie back. Should have nothing but width mass and just the right amount of extras.

Here is our 3 year old Sneakers 727 Buck. Again I love him except on the width. He is Maxbo 727 over Blue 32, a PA Geronimo Doe and Sneakers Dam :)

Should I use him too? He has everything I want..long tines, long beams, mass, extras.. Should be around 300 and has an 8X6 main frame.:)
