When is it safe to haul does with this years fawns. Length of trip is 4 hours. Should you wait til after weaning? We have no experience with this one but an opportunity has come up that would get us some great genetics already on the hoof.

Thanks

Kevin

Live load them on a cool evening. I would separate the fawns from adults in separate compartments. I see no problem moving them now other than they will be exposed to some new bacteria and their immune systems will be a little stressed. Buy a couple bags of ice and put them in the trailer with them or if you can buy block ice or freeze a five gallon bucket of water and dump the ice block inside the trailer.

Good luck

Are they going in a trailer or a crate? If you can separate that'd probably be best. But if you can't i would think they'd be ok. I've hauled a mom and fawn together before in a crate without incident. BUT he was weaned and rather large. If they have good air circulation 4 hrs will be a breeze. Good idea on the ice Bell. I never thought about that before. And yes..live load for sure..Mom first then the fawn. As soon as they start moving they'll lay down

Pay to leave them where they are until fall. Life will be easier for you. Not saying it can not be done its just much easier in the fall.

I'm with Josh...............You will have less chance to regret your decision................September will be here sooner than you think.

Best of luck

I'm with Josh and Wayne on this. Not just the stress in trailer, but stress adapting to new environment and new bacteria's! I wouldn't even consider it. Unless you have to move them.

I agree with Josh, Wayne, and Adam about waiting till fall is the best option. I kinda got the drift someone was pressing to move them now who was selling out or something. Deer forums is a very neat sight. I learn everyday on here. I can't believe all vested deer farmers don't log in regularly. If for nothing else to read the health and wellness topics. They have been very educational to me daily.
