When transporting deer approx 2-4 hours away in 70 degree weather.

Should we run the air condition in the trailer or just the fan and open the

windows ?

Are you going to tranq first to load them? We can catch our deer to move without tranq, so here's my answer. If you move them at night or evening fans and window vents should be enough, I prefer to move at night so if there is any problems you have some time before heat makes choices for you. eg. moving one buck in a crate in the back of a truck, alternator quit at 8:00 pm couldn't get a new one until 8: 00am, truck in air conditioned shop overnight probably prevented stress level from turning into a bad case of capture myopathy.

Keep in mind the time of year. This time of year in Missouri deer are getting a pretty thick winter coat. Meaning, if I move a deer now at 70 degrees, it will probably get too hot so I would use the AC or not move at all. If the deer is still in its thin summer (red) hair, 70 degrees is fine. Just do not get them upset before loading. Jeff

I've moved some over the past two weeks in boxes and trailer with no problems.I just do it either early or late in the day depending on how far.

The consideration whether to use the AC or not is dependant on the relative humidity at the release sight. Have you ever stepped outside from an air conditioned room and had your glasses or rifle scope fog up? The same thing happens in a deer's lungs when it has been inside an air conditioned trailer for a while and steps out into a warm humid atmosphere. This type of scenario promotes possible pneumonia. I think I would just transport if it was in the 70's.
