Turkey Buzzard Problems.

Has anyone here had any problems with Turkey Buzzards(Vultures)? I have a friend who has had them kill perfectly healthy fawns. This is done in a very short time. It is impossible to watch the enclosure all the time. Just looking for some advice so that it does not happen again this fawning season. Thank You so much in advance. Todd

Yes the black headed ones will kill new born fawns, the red headed one only seam to join in after the kill has been made. Maybe that Golden Marlin fly bait will work on them too.

I thought buzzards were just scavangers??? I have had them around the pens a couple times in several years, each time indicative that there was a dead deer to be removed.

They will kill newborns calves and fawns. They will pluck the eyes out. You better watch them. They are safe once they become mobile.

Seen them pick the eyes out of small fawns laying on the ground.I've seen two buzzards only that had a habit flying over the pens out of like 10 . I think in Texas buzzards are protected. So .... please assume I didn't take the Law into my own hands !!!

I've had vultures flying over my fawning pens. I have been known to run into the pen waving my arms and yelling at them like a crazy mad women (which I am at that moment) a momma bear has nothing on me when my babies are in danger. I then check where my doe had her fawns and if there is anything not cleaned up, any wet, I cover it with dirt. I will also hang around for a while, they seem a little intimidated then and go away. I also check the pens often and can see from my house if anything is flying over. They are protected here in N.Y. also. One of my friends in the DEC says he doesn't want to know anything??? We may have a different variety of vulture here too. And the fact we have alot of road kill to keep them busy may help. One time as a vulture flew over one of my does ran over to her fawn and stood over it looking up at the vulture as it flew over her. She's my kind of mother.
