Virginia banned the use of deer urine in the field

Hate to say this but unless the herd has been in a CWD program it's a good idea as CWD will travel by urine. 


Any herd that is under the program for five years should be excluded or what good does being in the CWD program do us?


I will bet this will spread through the industry fast as it will hurt the industry.  No one outside of the industry really knows how much testing we do to stay in business.  Plus the fact the testing is extreme and not done with science facts but emotion from our own regulator agencies.  Shocker. LOL
 
Your wrong on the urine transmission vector.  There was a test done were urine and feces were feed from positive deer to a control group.  They received 90 oral doses over a year and none of the control deer came down with CWD.

Interesting enough but if it's not through Urine or saliva or feces how is it traveling from infected deer to others??  Was a year long enough to really say it didn't travel that way?  Just doesn't make since if you think about it.  Sad to say experts don't know much more than they did 40 years ago.  Must be a lot of money in CWD for someone.


But like I said if urine collectors have been in the CWD program there shouldn't be much chance of spreading it from urine.  If we can't stand on our CWD testing which some of us have done for 15 years what the hell is this program doing for us as an industry?
 
I agree 100% Jack.  If our Certification means nothing, why are we doing it?  I personally don't think the other vectors have been investigated enough, mainly our food sources.  If CWD can enter my farm through my hay, or the corn in my pellets, then what good is my double fence?   The real problem with CWD is the wild herd, which is virtually untested, spreading prions on the ground, getting into our farms.  How else can we explain how CWD got into both Iowa and Minnesota on two 10+ year closed herds?  We can't fix this CWD issue on one side of the fence.  If the DNR isn't worried about fixing their end, then what's the point?  If the DNR can just release their herd to the wild, as in Wind Cave with a 40% infection rate, why is their nose so... bent out of shape when we come up with one positive?  We need a program where we can farm through CWD, and come out whole on the other side.  The scrapie program in sheep will at least keep you farming.
