Well another year has come and gone and yet little has changed in the cervid industry.
Many good people have attended meetings, made suggestions, written letters, retained legal advise, formed committees, gained seats on government panels and made a few waves as they criticized the government agencies that are determined to destroy this industry. After all this, Government Agencies are still trying their best to put this industry out of business without due compensation.
Even with all the man hours and funds spent, the industry continues to spiral downward out of control as more industry members fall by the wayside.
Although there has been a few things accomplished this past year, it has not yet improved this industry in any way. Maybe in another year or two it will but how many will be left in this industry by then?
This is a great industry with a lot of potential and a great product but since we're in competition with government wildlife agencies, we are at a disadvantage. Government Agencies want us gone and they will stop at nothing to accomplish their goal even if they have to be dishonest and misleading. They have proved this time and time again. That's just the type of people we're dealing with.
Individuals, in this industry, continue to be mistreated as their land and animals are taken from them after they have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars.
While there are several industry members willing to attend meetings, offer suggestions and write letters, this simply put is just not enough and it has not helped this industry.
Too many people are taking advantage of this industry as they try to keep prices unnaturally low for meat, antler and other industry products so they can make a fast buck today knowing that when this industry is gone, they will just move on to something else.
This fight has to be more than egos, power and how to make a fast buck today. Unless industry leaders put these issues aside and truly put industry members first, this industry will not survive.
