The Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA), which has never taken a position against our industry in the past, has came at us with both barrels blazing. QDMA is a small organization which was founded on the basis of managing your property and wild deer herd to grow bigger bucks. If you dig a little deeper into their history you will see they are more about "selling you foodplot seed and outdoor products" to make them money than about caring for the deer.

We have posted a link to the article on the Ranch Blog.

I feed Purina and plant biologic ..They are supporters of QDMA..I have emailed them both

If you choose to stop supporting those companies that support QDMA you need to make sure to contact them and tell them why you are no longer their customer. If you just stop buying their stuff and don't let them know why they have no way to know. I have spent some of my day letting thier sponsors know I can no longer do business with them.

Thanks...Bill

Just read QDMA's comments. What a CROCK!!!

Bill has brought up a VERY important point...Don't just quit doing business with their sponsors, let them ALL KNOW WHY!!!!!! It's paramount to the cause!

I work for one of the companies who has recently started supporting QDMA (as well as NADeFA). Most of these companies, including ours, is trying hard to unify our hunting industry and not tear it apart. We can't afford to choose sides and shouldn't have been put in a position to have to. What I find even more ironic is that several of the staff members from QDMA were supposedly to be hunting at a high fence operation in Greenville, FL just this past week. I agree with letting your companies know about your feelings, but I also ask that no one jump ship before you have time to see how this plays out.

Wow.....what a mistake....that article is full of lies and false information.........I hope they learn a very hard lesson from this!!

Just finished an email to all of the regional directors and Kip Adams. I dont mean this in a bad way, but I feel we need to be mature and respectful in our emails. I say this because i had to revise my email a few times and delete/reword a few phrases and sentences because i was speaking out of anger. I personally feel they are more likely to read a letter that does not attack. I have a strong passion and care for this industry and i think my email reflects that. I am now going through all the sponsors of qdma that our family deals with and sending an email to all of them. My family and I will not support any business that supports an assoc. that means to hinder the way we make a living or that tells us what to do with OUR land. I think they may be suprised at the amount of their members that disagree with their stance on our industry and private property rights, they just lost 8 members in my family alone and 3 more friends of mine will not be renewing their memberships.

Remember the Post that Sam had about lies, lies and more lies??? I had posted a paragraph about the writer being a "friend of the Wildlife Federation". Here is my paragraph pasted from that post about the Federation. I just dug a little deeper and also found this article about the founder of the QDMA getting a "conservationist of the year award" from the Wildlife Federation, Obviously they must have the same views towards commercial hunting. One of our clueless new state reperesentatives was given the "South Dakota Wildlife Federation Represevtative friend of the year" at the state Wildlife Federation convention and after that, she made it her point to kill any good commercial hunting bill that the federation opposed, they kissed her a$$ and she fell for it. Well it looks like they did the same thing here with the QDMA founder and he also fell for it without obviously looking at the bigger picture. I'm sure if you dig deeper, everyone in that upper QDMA staff is a Wildlife Federation member.

If you google Bob Hodge the writer who wrote the story Sam James had replied to, you'll find out in one of his other articles he's written that he is a "friend of the National Wildlife Federation". If anyone has been around or studied exactly what the Wildlife Federation is, they know all about these people. They are totally against any type of commercial hunting, period. There belief is that the wildlife belongs to the people of the state and that it is there right(not the privilage)to be able to go wherever whenever they want free of charge to access the wildlife. Typical liberal free loaders, they want everyone else to put the time and money into managing and enhancing habitat for the wildlife but you'll find out these people contribute NOTHING for the wildlife. They have full time lobbyists in every state who fight any bill that comes up that may favor commercial hunting in any way. Here in SD they hate all the landowners and commercial pheasant hunting operations but will road hunt roosters around them all day in hopes of taking a rooster out of the ditch that a preserve may have released rather then going out and actually walking for them or getting to know a landowner and forming a friendship and maybe having a good place to hunt. If you opened up your deer and elk preserve for free hunting for a week, they would all be there ready to shoot every deer you have if it was free to them and you would never even get so much as a thank you out of them. They put there names on the "sportsman against hunger" programs so they look good to the public while they continue to wipe out the deer populations on the public land in the name of feeding the hungry by overhunting. They whine that all the landowners with good deer hunting won't let them hunt anymore because the "rich" non-residents have taken all the good land away from them. They will tell any lie they have to in order to achieve there goal, NO commercial hunting. When they have nothing, they have nothing to loose.

The National Wildlife Federation is one of the biggest anti COMMERCIAL hunting groups out there. TAKE NOTE AND BEWARE

Jarrid,

I agree wholeheartedly with regards to being respectful. In my emails I simply state that since QDMA is against my lively hood and you support their organization I would discontinue purchasing products from you.

Here's what Cargill had to say:

Thank you for your contact. Cargill understands and respects various points of view regarding the deer population. As an organization committed to nourishing animals, our focus will continue to remain on ensuring proper nutrition and development for all wildlife, regardless of their habitat.

While we do not always agree with every position taken by the organizations we support, our purpose in supporting them from the perspective of educating deer enthusiasts on the importance of proper nutrition remains true.

Our support of organizations is to help improve educational on wildlife nutrition. If you would like I would be more than happy to contact you by phone.

that's their contact info from their website . . . you might want to read some of what the QDMA members and leaders are saying about this issue on their forums

General Discussion

and

State/DMU/County Regulations

It's scary how people just believe what they are fed without discovering the truth themselves (and a reminder that we're all susceptible to the same if we don't take the time to research the truth).

Great point Joe - ''...we're all susceptible to the same if we don't take the time to research the truth.'' And that is what all those QDMA members that are dissing on the deer farming industry are guilty of. This all might be a blessing in disguise to deer farming if the truth is put out there in our defense...truth that would have otherwise remained dormant/silent.

I recieved same reply as above from Record Rack yesterday and then today I recieved this. I will be watching to see if this actually takes place if it does I commend Record Rack. Good morning James,

I wanted to contact you to let you know that we will be contacting QDMA this morning to let them know that we will not have our brand associated with this movement. Cargill believes in personal property rights and services the deer breeder business in many ways. We invest in research and development for nutritional advancement, support breeders organizations and consult with owners and managers daily. We are therefore requesting our logos be removed from their website and will likewise be removing their logo from our site as well. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call. I appreciate your concern and dedication to the deer breeder industry.

Thanks for your business,
