What are the chances of this ??

We have had a total of 8 fawns born so far...4 sets of twins. The problem, if there is any, is that all 8 of these fawns are bucks !! What are the chances of this happening? Does anybody know how to work probabilities to figure out the odds of this happening? Has any body else ever experienced this?

We have 7 does bred at our farm. Five does are bred to Zeus, an RCM Noble son. Four of those does bred to Zeus are ones that have delivered so far. We have 1 doe remaining to deliver that is bred to him and she ALWAYS gives doe fawns. We will see soon what she has made. Perhaps he only makes bucks.

Anyone interested in buying him??

It would be interesting to see everyones percentages of male or female when fawning is over. So far we have had about 65% doe fawns.

So far out of 4 fawns 75% doe fawn.

Does the doe to buck % change as a sire ages. I once read that as human males age the percentage for them to produce girls rises.

How old is Zeus

Headly, I am sure my Zeus is not the same Zeus you used to AI with. I have never had him drawn.

Zeus is right now a 2 yr old. I just got off the phone with Ron Myers and he was telling me that the Noble breedings have produced many more buck fawns than doe fawns over the years. He was guessing that 65-70% of the fawns from Noble bloodlines are bucks. That may have alot to do with it.

I have 4 fawns out of Noble this year, two bucks/two does.

We have had 20 fawns so far this year out of 10 does and 13 were does and 7 were bucks. Last year though we had 12 fawns with 9 buck fawns and 3 doe fawns.

2007, 2 buck 3 doe

2008 4 buck 4 doe

2009 2 buck 2 doe

2010 so far, 6 buck 5 doe, with 4 more fawns expected

I am still running exactly 50% in my fourth year

Assuming we have a 50/50 chance on bucks and does the probability of having 8 bucks in a row is 1/256. :D

In 2008 we had 6 to 1 bucks over does.

In 2009 we had 6 to 2 bucks over does.

This year we had so far 8 to 2 bucks over does.

Do you think that your feed nutrition levels play a part in deciding the sex.

I have 5 buck fawns and 2 doe fawns. I lost one buck already so 4:2 or 2:1 buck:doe ratio is good any year.

Sam is correct in the 1 in 256 attempts.

1 chance of buck fawn is 50%

2 of 2 is 25%

3 of 3 is 12.5%

4 of 4 is 6.25%

5 of 5 is 3.125%

6 of 6 is 1.5625%

7 of 7 is 0.78125%

8 of 8 is 0.390625% or 1/256

Could you buy me a lottery ticket?

Just had my second doe fawn and I am 1:3 bucks to doe I guess there is someone who always goes against the norm, I guess thats me here.

I am at 4 doe fawns and 2 bucks right now....this is good for me. I have had a couple of years of 13-14 fawns per year and had one and two bucks in the lot. If you want some doe fawns , just bring your deer to me or even just drive by with your deer in the trailer...chances are you will get does. Jim

Rustyblaster,

That gives me a great idea. I will go buy a some lottery tickets. I guess I should buy 8 BUCKS worth....LMAO !!

I will keep you in mind and share my winnings with you.
