What to rub out of velvet on?

We are starting to fence in pasture at our new farm and there are no trees to rub out on in the new pens. I know I am not the first to do so and I am wondering what other farmers use in situations like this for their bucks. I will be building walls for wind breaks and shade. I am just trying to make these pens "perfect" and would love any suggestions or if there are farms close I would love to take a farm tour. Thank you in advance

Put a couple rubbing posts in each pen.....and each year take in cut limbs off trees for them to browse and rub on......

I like the Christmas tree idea.....but doesn't it usually turn their racks real dark when rubbing out on pine? I like the whiter racks......just my opinion......still a great idea.....

Travis - Take your post hole digger and 'plant' a live tree that you've cut somewhere. Preferably use a type of tree that wild bucks typically rub on in your area. Make sure it's 4 to 6 inches thick.

I would worry a tad about fastening a tree to a post for fear that the buck would come in off the side and possibly get his horns caught up in the fence next to the post...I've seen them do it(absent of the tree)...Murpheys Law, it'll get you every time.

Just my opinion...

Best to you Travis!

I have straw bales and they work good. As far as trees on post, what I have done is around the middle of the pen I put 6" cedar post and attach trees to that, not the fence post.

Travis take bottom of a t post weld a 2'' or bigger pipe to it leaving about 1-2 inches of t post above the pipe so you can drive it in the ground.cut a hole in the pipe so a 1/2 inch or bigger fits in weld the nut to the pipe drive in the ground. cut a tree to fit pipe tighten and change tree when ever. This has worked great for me.
