Has anyone ever mix drinking water with milk replacer? I think my water well is shallow and salty? any info would help !!!!

I would think that the drinking water would be better. They say that drinking water is more healthy for humans to drink because of the minerals that distilled water doesn't have. Of course, if its better for us then i assume that it would be the same for the deer. That being said we just use our well water even though I personally do not drink it. It is safe to drink but the taste is not very good. The deer have to drink well water when they get to the pens so I think why not start them on it. Also, for us using distilled water would cost just as much as the milk powder so its just not feasible for us.

We use well water also, but boil it for the first week a fawn is started. We just boil a couple gallons and keep in empty gallon jugs to use on the newer fawns. After the first week they go on regular well water. Not sure if it is necessary but has worked for us.

Several years ago we started using reverse osmosis water from machines that are outside many stores in our area. We noticed an immediate improvement in the fawns stools. Last year we had a system installed in our home and now use reverse osmosis water for all fawn feedings.
