We are bottle feeding an orphan fawn. He will be two weeks old tomorrow. When should he be dewormed & what should we give him?

7way -2cc under skin- apply at time of weaning to mother and fawn and re apply after 2-3weeks. Can also apply to new borns.
Worm adults with 4cc ivermec under skin. Doe and yearling bucks 3cc when separating deer 1-2 times a yr. that's basically all I do. What happened to the mom??

It is for use as an aid in preventing disease caused by Clostridium chauvoei (Blackleg), septicum (Malignant edema), novyi (Black disease), sordellii, perfringens Types C & D (Enterotoxemia), and Haemophilus somnus. You can get it any any cattle supply store
The last time I wormed mine I used the ivermectin pour on for cattle. You should be sure to get the right dose on them or I think they may become ill??? I've heard of ppl putting it on dogs and they get sick if to much is applied but idk if it holds true for deer. Pretty sure I got a good dose on mine last time they were in the chute and they are ok.

What most people don't know is the fawn can be born with worms already at birth. This is because some worm larva migrate and get lost in the doe and end up in the uterus. So when the fetus starts to grow that larva will enter that fetus. It is alright to worm a fawn at birth if you know your herd has a worm problem. Fact is you can worm a fawn any time you find symptoms of worms or if fawn is off in some way. The safest wormer is safe guard or Valbazen given oral.
No wormer will kill the 1st and 2nd stage of the worm cycle. This is important to know because those stages will develop to adults in 12 days so you need to worm again in ten days to kill all the worms in that fawns system or the worms will start again in that fawn.
I would add that Ivermic will not kill tape worms but safe guard and Valbazen will and also kills most other worms Ivermic will so is a better product for fawns in my opinion. It can be put in the bottle if bottle feeding so is easy to give.

Jack, what is the dose by weight that you use when you worm with Safe Guard, or Valbazen. I know with Valbazen you have to give a correct dose by weight as there isn't much margin for error. Safe Guard is pretty safe, but still would like the dose by weight. Can you use the Safe Guard pellets, and if so how do you dose that. Thanks Joanie

I feel valbazen is as safe as Safe Guard and on my ranch it seems to work better. I have used triple dose on deer with no problem.
I guess if your fawns are eating pellets then Safe Guard will work.
I feed cob which is rolled corn, oats and barley with molasses on it. AS my deer eat this every day I put it on that mix the day before so it dries into the feed and then just feed it the next day. I have no problem using a double dose on feed. If the fawn is on the bottle I put in 1cc of Valbazen in the milk mix the fawn is used to drinking. Hope this helps.
