With spring just around the corner i am looking into several fly control systems and ran across fly predators and was wondering if any of yall have used them and if they are worth the money and if the control all flys like the midge fly that carries ehd or if it only takes care of certain types any advice would be grateful Thanks Nick

We just aired one of our episodes on the fly traps we use. They are really effective. There will be more on them in upcoming episodes.

We sell the Fly Preditors and we are also using them this year. I was at a fellow deer farmers place last year in PA and I had to look very hard to even find a fly so in this case yes they worked great. The only issue with them is if you have neighbors adjacent to your property that also have animals they too will need to use them or you will just get their flys. From results I have personally seen and also hope to report from this year, they work great and no pesticides. Fly Preditors also have fly traps and mosquitoe torpedos which is for your water troughs. Call me or PM me your address and I will send you a phamphlet of the Fly Preditors

Thanks for watching the show! On an upcoming show Gary will go back and you will see how full they are - and how disgusting to empty them! There are a few laughs about it on the show - don't do it on a windy day.

We get them at our local Fleet Farm store but you can order them through Jeffers. We use the 1 gal. sized jugs. I think when you look at Jeffers website, they show the smaller sized ones but if you click on it, it will give you an option for the quart or gallon size. I think they were $9.95 there.

I have used these jugs before and yes they will fill up with flies, but from what I have seen, the flies it fills up with mostly are the ones with the iridescent bodies, and those aren't the ones that pester the deer. The ones that pester the deer are smaller and bite the deer, and us as well.

Now I'm not saying they aren't worth using or that they don't catch at least some of those biters as well. And I'm not suggesting the iridescent flys are ''ok'' to have around. I'm saying those aren't the ones that blacken our deer's legs and make our deer miserable through their relentless biting...biting to the point of drawing blood.

I've used Golden Malrin around the areas where grain has spilled and gotten wet, or have put Golden Malrin on what was left of a fish I just filleted, and my driveway flatout gets covered with dead flys of all kinds, and lots of gnats fall prey to it as well. Yes one must be VERY careful where to place the Golden Malrin as it will kill non-target critters quickly.

Now...to disclaim...I'm NOT saying here my Golden Maldrin is the way to go over the jugs. I'm saying it is something else to do for fly and gnat control, and maybe using both could help our poor deer deal with them biters that make life miserable for our deer in the summer. It makes my life miserable just watching them!

I will say this - A completely closed in shed with no windows eliminates the fly problem. I've watched my deer being literally chased by a cloud of flies, run to my shed, and as they enter the doorway the flies act like there is a barrier there and do not enter with them. So, the deer go in lay down in complete comfort, and don't have to race around all day trying to escape the relentlessness of those biters.

Why do the flys not enter? I don't really know except I believe it has something to do with the lack of light...it almost has to. Like I said...a completely closed in shed with no windows, yet with some top ventilation.

Mark you are right. I one time used a 5 gallon bucket to mix some up for a tweety problem. I must have left a little fluid in the bucket when i set it on an old trailer about 80 yards from the nearest pen. When i went back to use that bucket again mabey a month later.... An inch of flies on the bottom...Could not believe how mant were in there with very little fluid and so far from a pen!!!!! It Work's!!

Well, you can put whatever you want in the jars for bait. We find that if we leave some of the dead flies in there when we empty them they fill up even faster. We have definitely noticed a reduction in the flies on our deer. Of course there still are some, but far fewer than before. We definitely do not have clouds of flies chasing our deer.

Nick, I don't think you can find used predators.I have used them for six years and they are the best fly control out there and the less work.I buy from Spalding in Calif. and got 5 or 6 shipments a year at a cost of about 250.00.

Up north they do not live thru the winter .I tried jars but the stink was to bad as we exhibited to the public . the predator wasp are hard to see and don't bite people.
