Russell I hear a lot of the hunting preserves out there wanting to change the title to hunting ranches. with this said I thought I would take a vote and see what everyone here thinks. If the majority want the change maybe we could change the thread titles within the deer forums.

Thanks for bringing this up Dennis. We go by Apple Creek Whitetails Ranch. Their is much to change in the minds of hunters. We Have a little break than another 7 hunters arrive Sunday.

Merry Christmas

Scott

I agree with LJwhitetails. Preserve sounds kinda old:(. Ranch sounds Exciting:D:D. Just me thinking out loud:rolleyes:. Allen

so are we going to ride the deer and elk or are we going to heard them and ship the for slaughter? were not changing what we are so go ahead and call it what you I have no trouble telling people that I own a High Fence Hunting Preserve, maybe people should get proud of what they do and stand for what they do and believe in not try to hide behind political correctness or is that cower behind political correctness

for example ....no matter how much plastic surgery Joan Rivers gets....she will always be Joan Rivers (shudder)

Curtis, I couldn't agree more! The more we change to be accepted.........The more we lose who we really are! I was told a long time ago that 97% of the people go thru life trying to be someone they are not just to try and fit in!

Use alot of different names..each one may attract a different group of hunters.

I dont think that change is always a meaning of giving in. I think its a way of growth. If the name was to change from preserve to ranch i dont see as being a loss for our industry as giving in to anti's. I see it as growth! Our industry is growing. Along with our growing industry comes change. Politicly correct our not, either term im not sure i dont own a ranch or sell hunts but the way i see it is what is next for our business. High fence to Preserves to now Ranches. Maybe so.

Not that my opinion means a pinch of $#@^ but I don't think it is about being politically correct or giving in at all. I see a shift in what our places are called more as a personal preference by the owners, and also maybe as a marketing idea.

If you notice our place has been called Independence Ranch and our hunting place has been called Buck Hollow Ranch since the very beginning.

Again I get my opinion means nothing, but I thought I would toss it out there.

Yes Roger you are absolutely correct...............I am a deer farmer ......I do not have a hunting ranch or preserve for that matter....just simply laying it out there for the majority to vote on.......personally I think preserve sounds bad but hey......thats just my opinion..........I actually would have thought more would agree that Ranch sounds better but I guess wwe will see where the the poll ends!!

In Texas every place is a ranch. I wasn't familiar with the term "preserve" until I went hunting with Roy Yoder years back. I figured it was just a regional thing, or like Roger stated, the owner's preference.

Yep Steve, owners preference. Really this topic is much a do about nothing. I do like that many have started referring to the bucks we raise as "stocker" or "hunt" bucks. That was a good idea started out by Jack from Montana. I think there are other issues more important than this one.

curtis, how about just X-Y-Z FARMS , NO HIGH FENCE,NO RANCH, NO PRESERVE, IN THE NAME, i know it took you guys a long time to get where you are and your proud of it, just saying as a marketing thing you say , come hunt on x-amount of AC, ( protecked ) land, worry free from, traspassers and shady woods romers, just my 2 cents

Hunters could be your best advertisement.

Would a hunter be proud to tell his buddies that he shot his buck at a high fence operation, preserve or Ranch?

A Game reserve,is an area managed for hunting . It does not imply any thing unless you wish it too,'private game reserve','enclosed game reserve','public game reserve',etc. They are all game reserves, just leave off the prefix if you wish.Game reserve is the internationally recognised title (english speaking countries). The title preserve or ranch already causes enough confusion amongst some (prevents tourists).A change may cause more confusion, other than to game reserve which may clear some up.Merry Christmas & a happy new year from "Down under".

I don't think it matters either way. Most every one i know that has nothing to do with the industry calls them canned hunts. Most don't care what it is called as long as they get to shoot a deer.
