Wormer?

We have a 4 week old fawn and she seems to be coughing a lot. When she coughs it sounds like something is coming up. She is loosing her hair and it's getting replaced by gray fuzz.

My guess would be pneumonia by far over any parasite. Pneumonia is one of the largest killers in the cervid industry and right around that 30 day period for fawns symptoms can begin to arise (it can happen sooner, just what seems like optimum time). If you can get your hands on it I would do one of two things, administer either nuflor or baytril. I give nuflor at 3cc/100lbs IM and repeat in 48 hrs or 6cc/100lb SQ single dose. Baytril I will do 5cc/100lbs single does. So adjust based on your little guys weight. You can even give him some prevail or dexamethasome, do not do both as it is a deadly combination. Prevail will help him feel better, dex will boost the immune system. Hope I was of some help. Ryan

I would also give nuflor.  I have had two lambs who also lost all their hair from the legs up, it is my opinion this was caused by a very high temperature in the animal.  My grandchildren called them peaches as they were just fuzz.  Their hair grew back in a month at least enough to keep them warm.
