I have a year old buck that broke his antler down deep, like below his hair line. What is the best thing to do?
is his skull fractured? Is the antler completly gone? I have skinned out many a deer with weird looking racks only to find out their skull was deformed from a fracture. I would deffanly watch for infection.
Yeah I don't know Uncle Harley. It seems as though it is dislodged from the skull plate, but yes the antler is still there. I made a phone call and was advised to cut it off short, try and position the stub back to a more normal position best I could. Before starting I was also advised to put a tourniquet (I used rubber bands) on just above the pedicle, then make my cut just above there. I put 3 in 1 antibiotic cream on it, gave him draxxin, put CyLence on him down his back as well as regular bug repellent all over and around his ears, neck and face to help ward off the flys. Pretty sure no one will be licking on him today!
