Happy Memorial Weekend
. My sister and I got up at 5:30 am. We tagged 5 fawns, two were hypothermic, we put them in our ''home made" hot boxes with hair dryers. There now back up to temperature, and ready for bottle-feeding. This sure beats Saturday morning cartoons and video games. Here is our fawn protocol at birth we use at Applecreek.
• Take Temperature- Put lube on thermometer, Temp should be around 101 but if temp is below 100 bring in building! Follow the hypothermic fawn protocol.
• E-Coli- 2cc given orally(in mouth) at birth (keep refrigerated, but get to room temp before giving to fawn)
• Bo-Se injection- .5 cc Sub- Q(under skin-by the hind quarters are good injection sites)-Use 20G x ½â€ needle
• Vitamin B Complex injection- 1cc Sub-Q ( under skin-front shoulder or neck are good injection sites) Use 20G x ½ “ needle
• Alpha-7 injection- 2cc injection Sub-Q( under skin- front shoulder or neck are good injection sites) Use 20G x ½â€ needle.
• Micro-chip- Insert underneath side of the tail. Place sticker on record sheet or save it to enter into GMS
• Ear Tag- right ear ( Blue=Boys, Red= Girls) Always use consecutive numbers.
• DNA(Pull white hair off of tail).
• Picture- make sure ear tag is included
• Enter information into GMS Field Master
Never give multiple injections in the same area.
