Hey first year with deer. I Have a 2yr old buck with his front hooves really long. I read a old post were they can be trimmed was wondering what you use and how short you trim them? Also is it ok to dart a buck during velvet? thanks

Is there such a thing as trimming the hooves of a deer? I have one deer with real long hooves.

In the past, I have seen elongated hooves occassionally before, and they seem to eventually just break off. Other than just the confinement, I have heard that too high of a protein content is responsible for these extra long hooves. I feed 16% grain and a 22% hay. If it is indeed caused by...

One of our buck fawns hooves are about 4 inches long and he has some trouble walking on them. We are going to put him down to move him to the buck pen anyway. What i am wondering is what to use to trim them.
