A Wish is Granted to a Wish Granting Charity

The children of the United Special Sportsman Alliance (USSA) received a very special gift on September 9, 2009. From the generosity of Walgreens and its employees in Windsor WI, came a major donation to help support the mission of the USSA and childswish.com. Walgreens raised money to share with two charities, and gave 1/2 of what was raised to the USSA and the other 1/2 to a charity for autism.

The USSA was founded by Brigid O'Donoghue from Wisconsin, and has granted over 5,500 outdoor wishes to children and their families who endure serious, life-threatening, or chronic illnesses. The charity operates strictly on a volunteer, non-compensated basis. Children from over 34 states have taken part in the USSA wish granting program, which provides the granted wishes at no cost to the kids or their families.

O'Donoghue believes that the support from Walgreens will be a critical aspect to granting the many upcoming wishes that the USSA has planned. "We are not like any other wish granting charity", says O'Donoghue, "we deal with all of the varied aspects of medical and physical challenges in the outdoors". She went on to add, "the support from Walgreens and their staff is an immense blessing to our kids and their families, it is great to see a pharmaceutical company get so involved with the needs of others, we are truly grateful".

Walgreens employs people with various physical and medical challenges, and has been a supporting advocate for charities and programs that provide help or services to many people who have special needs. O'Donoghue concluded, "On behalf of all of us involved with the USSA, we want to express our heart-felt thanks. Without this help our mission would not be possible. We pledge to use all funds in an efficient, equitable manner as to do the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people possible!”
