I have 1 buck who is 1.5 and a doe who is now about 7 months old. Will she get bred this year? The buck seems to be showing the aggressive signs of rutting, but I never notice him trying to breed her, he just rams her with his antlers all the time :)

When do you know if your does are bred?
 
You can never be sure a fawn will breed, If they are 80-90 pounds there is a better chance, but still no guarentee in my expierence. watch him closely and see if he starts trying to mount her this month or early next month, that would likely be when she comes in heat if she's going too.
 
I had 1 .5 yr old buck **** doe in her side had hole all winter,bout Died.Thery get mad at some on the chase it piss them oFF.i seen this over and over.another 1.5 buck gored one this yr but no harm done cut!!cut less byself only!! might breed might not.only time will answer that. He can still **** no matter size pen i watched all this. he can nail them quick!!:eek: the one he had her side her azz she was blood!! And holes!.i kept his antler with the blood still there.Dc
 
Good evening everyone if I might ask a similar question but with a younger buck. The wife and I only have 3 does and 1 buck fawn sharing the same acre. Being new to the industry i have a question about the little guys ability to reproduce. I currently have 90% of the acre split in half. I am debating on separating them at the end of the month. All 4 were born in June.

If the buck fawn has hard buttons and can reach the does, he will breed them. If your does are fawns, they can breed when they reach 60% of thier adult body weight. I would seperate around Jan 1 to keep from having late fawns.
 
What if the buck fawns head is as smooth as the does. This is why i am asking. Could he produce buttons up until Jan - Feb or not.
 
are you sure you dont have 4 girls and no boys? I know it sounds dumb but if you have a june born buck fawn and he doesent have buttons yet thats not good!I have a june buck fawn and he has about 2in hard horn.he is out of real good breeding but i think any buck fawn should have some kind of buttons!
 
I also have a buck fawn in with my 4 does and he has great looking pedicles and has buttons protruding but no hard horn. Is early antler on a fawn any indication of how he will produce in the future or do some simply just get a early start and others are late bloomers. I plan on separating the buck fawn in Jan. but he is use to having company so will he put up a fuss when he is alone?
 
The question isn't funny anything could happen believe me. I trust where the buck came from I was not there to pick him up because I was in the hospital myself.



I think it might have something to do with the feed also. I just switched to another brand of feed and they seem to devour it using the 1.5 lbs of feed per animal per day. I will not get into the brand X and Y feed issue because I have learned that what may work on one farm may be the worst thing on the next.



I know he is not going to like being separated the does have him pretty calm now he is an 8 to 10 footer now.
 
Last year I had a buck fawn in with two May-born doe fawns and he bred the earlier born fawn. I saw the chase and attempts on both does so I thought both would have offspring but only one. I have heard if hard antler pops through he is ready if she is willing.

A side note: I seperated one of two buck fawns to put in with the does to breed. The remaining buck fawn was alone and just about paced himself to death. I ended up putting a July born doe fawn with him b/c I figured she would not come in heat. I think that saved his life b/c he calmed down after that.
 
The wife and I took and educated guess and decided to leave the fawns all together due to size, and lack of buttons protruding that was until today.



I saw the little guy today go vertical "got some air" on one of my other doe fawns. So I guess without buttons he can still be active. So by new years they will be separated. I just hope he does not stress out to much.

Hey dream, He got some air but you didnt say if you thought he got some tail. LOL

If he did he might have alot of stress cause you know us guys,once we get some tail we want all we can get!! keep us posted! HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL
 
I have a yearling Driftwood buck that I have as a breeder in one pen...In it I have a Maxbo XL fawn out of a flees doe...(that I was praying would breed, He is HUGH) and I also put a Lagacy fawn and a HighGoer fawn In that pen...I'll tell ya what...My XL fawn...Nothing...

That Highgoer fawn was ALL BUISNESS!!! Even before my Yearling...He'd hit it and wouldn't quit it...I am going to be doing a lot of DNA'ing... That little dude was in everyone!

Some fawns play...But not him!

Size doesn't always matter... I guess???
 
I finished the pens and separated the fawns this evening just before dark. Hopefully they laid down fairly quick and will not spook tonight.:( We will see how he acts tomorrow morning. I might have to put the youngest fawn back in with him.:rolleyes:

Good news is that his pedicles have started growing.:) Do not see the buttons yet through the hair but bumps are there. Must have been a late bloomer. Guess that is why he has been busy lately.:D

I do not know still thinking the new feed might have had something to do with it.
