Out of two fawns i had born on 7-5-09 one of them just doesn't look good at all. She is about half the size of the other one. She seams toeat and drink fine. Everytime i go out to feed she is one of the first to show up. She has a pot belly but her hips to me seam sunk in and just overall she doesnt look healthy. A friend of mine said it looks like ACIDOSIS from the pictures i sent him of the deer. He said i need to try and get her to drink GRAPE GATORADE. He says this will level out her electrolytes and should help fix her up. He said to put a bucket of Gatorade by the water bucket and keep it full. This way hopefully she will drink from this. This is my first year in farming and i only have two pens completed so this deer is in with 3 others and i can only get about 20 feet from her before she takes off. I posted a couple of pictures of this deer. In the second picture you can see how much smaller this doe is compared to the other one next to her that is the same age. Has anybody seen or herd anything about this and know of anything i can do to try and help this deer.

I don't think you have an electrolyte problem. You might have a pH problem, that is leading to some acidosis in the guts, but gatorade won't help that. If you see her drinking water regularly, I wouldn't worry about the electrolyte/hydration part of it. She needs a big dose of probiotics, and maybe some Albon or other sulfa med, along with a fecal sample to determine which dewormer to use. Have you treated her with anything yet? Have you wormed your pen recently and with what? Tell us a little more about your program, what you feed, what your pen drainage is like, how wet have you been, did other livestock live on that site in pens before you built deer pens there....just give us as much detail as you can. Sometimes the most obscure thing can point to a possibility.
