How will sounds like my tractor, mowing and idiots about 400 feet away shooting effect my deer?

You will be fine as long as you have calm deer. I shoot squarlers out of my feed troughs and they just jump a little if they are close(under 100ft.) if farther they just turn to look. My brother races dirtbikes so he is riding passed pens and they just look, might jump off alil if they are right next to the fence.

We get our deer used to thing on purpose. We know people ride 4 wheelers around here...they ride with 15 of them in a row...So before spring we ride ours near our pens and into them with feed... to get new deer used to them ect...

I train k-9 dogs my bomb and drug dogs can be trained to do anything so I figured I will train my deer not to fear dogs...Well it worked, but my neighbors dog got loose one day and my deer wanted to say hi, walked up to him to kiss him and the dog grabbed his face... so your dammed if ya do, dammed if ya don't...but nobody broke their necks hitting the fence...

That sucks! I don't even like looking at that. Did the dog responsible get one way ticket to doggy heaven?

No it was a good neighbors dog who I like... he is always on a chain but broke it and was off for a short time...Every time I think about it I want to shoot it because there is always a chance of a next time. That buck was so upset .He was bottle raised and never been hurt in his life...Then that happened to him, he would go clear to the other side of his pen when he would hear that dog bark.

My question is, if I shoot some kid off the county road because he's doing doughnuts with his dirt bike, or shoot a pack of teens who are throwing beer bottles into a pen, will my deer go crazy?

Teens throwing beer bottles into a pen??? Sounds like vandalism punishable by law to me.

I wonder if that dirt bike is road legal???

I routinely shoot armadillos, ***** and possums in my pens all the time. Never had any problem. They don't associate that loud bang to anything bad to them. The only noise that I have seen really freak them out was when I thought it would be a good idea to spread some cover crop seed with one of those hand spreaders. The loud clicking didn't sit well with them, even the calm ones.

Droptine;

I am just the opposite. I can spread seed with the 4 wheeler in the pens. Heck last Tues. I took the 4020 in and spread fertilizer with a big buggy and they just stood there and watched. Last month I shot at a skunk out the back door of my house 1000' away from the pens and all heck broke loose. I wish there was one of those red easy buttons for deer farmin!

When my neighbor shoots some of his loud rounds(44mag 30-06) it makes my non bottle fed bucks pretty nervous. They don't bang the fence but I would hate to be working them while he's shooting. They do get used to it some what. It's hard to figure deer though. The worst case i've had with them hitting the fence is when I went walking across the pen with a 10' post on my sholder. One of them blew and they scatered 6 different directions 3 of them smacking the fence. Fortunatley nobody got hurt. Go figure? Rick

The only thing I can definitely without a doubt tell you about deer farming is...

No matter how much you watch an AI'ED doe waiting for fawns, it will not make her fawn quicker!

I speak from experience... I had it happen a few times on my farm now and it is a guaranteed given. won't happen..... but that's it everything else is hit-n-miss:p

HaHa, aint that the truth :D

My bucks look at me when I shoot at a squirrel or **** as if too say nice shot or better luck next time. Even my tame and wild does don't seem to have a problem with me discouraging intruders with a .22. I can't say I have shot a gun bigger than that around them but it gets the job done so why change?

We have a shooting range next ot our pens that doesn't seem to bother the deer. Over the years it seems the more activite that is around the deer pens the more they get use to it. I even take my border colie into the pens the deer don't mind. But you to do things with in small steps.

When I picked up one of my fawns from another farm he had a radio jamming in the barn with them...I think I am going to do that too...
