I have a fawn that I started on the bottle on Monday. I am using red cap milk. She pooped on Monday 2x, Tues. 2x, Wed. 1x in morn. She hasn't pooped today. Does any1 have suggestions? She is up to 7 oz. And still acts hungry, should I feed more or wait? Thanks for your help!

Wayne we stimulate ours once a day, if i can get a bowl movement at least every 24 hrs I feel pretty good about that, if it goes 2 days i get a little worried... we had one that was constipated last night and had to help him a little more than normal, we will stimulate him 2x a day and add some mineral oiul to bottle untill he softens up some...

forgot to tell you if you are limiting their intake like we do they will always seem hungry even after feeding... I try to be up to 7oz 3x a day by the end of week one....

If you are feeding straight red cap give them as much as they want just use a little common sense. Mine last year at that age would quit at around 8-10 oz. Red cap is not like formula they do not bloat and it digest much easier however they will pee alot more. With straight red cap you have to feed more cause their is less nutrition per oz.If you feed the same way you feed formula you will be not be giving them enough nutrition. Trust me mine were up to 32 oz per feeding towards the end of summer with no problems and they were bigger than fawns on mother. Go to abuckfarm.com there are a few pics of my last years fawns and a pic of them this year on 5/13/10 they are doing great.

Yep Virgil I agree 100% on the red cap.......Let em eat....watch em pee!!! Most fawns will stop when full and start fussing around with the nipple.....now there are those too that will eat till they explode......like Virgil said use common sense....I have fawns right now that are 7 days old eating 8 to 10 ounces 4 times a day and they are doing great!!

Whatever works best for you Robert that is what you go with.......thats how it works for me....as long as my fawns are nice big and healthy I'm stickin with the plan!! Please don't think I was trying to tell you how to feed your fawns.........just saying what works for me. Glad to hear your fawns are doing well!!

Dennis, I think you have invented the DEER FARMER motto. Because, It Is What It Is :p;):D:) Allen

32oz at 7 days old in one feeding now that would not be using comin sense. If you read my post i said 8-10oz per feeding 4 times a day at that age is about what mine were eating. I said toward the end of summer they were eating 32oz per feeding and actually i had one that was a real hog and he would eat 40-50oz but he was a pretty big fawn. That was #91 a fireball buck fawn who is pictured on my web page. Not trying to start any fights but It is what it is i guess and i had the least amount of problems and had no fatalities just big healthy fawns so to each his own i guess.
