In Cattle it is called a wry face, however I have never seen it in a deer. Goats sometimes have wry tails which is a DQ in the show world. This rare condition is believed to have something to do with the calcium levels in the mother, but that is just a belief and I can't offer any research on the subject. It is included in the catagory of defects called parrot mouth, underbites, monkey mouth, wry face, etc.

The fawns face acually looks a little odd too....long hair......missing some of the distinct whitetail coloration in the face.....
Thanks for posting your pics. We have what we believe has this same sort of mouth but, ours was also born with one eye. dob: 7/9/10 We are a very small operation and this is our 2nd fawning season. She seems to be doing fine. We did bring her in to bottlefeed b/c she had already gotten out of the pen with her mom and we aren't able to keep a constant watch on her out at the pens. We spoke with a vet and he wondered if it had something to do with the other twin in utero b/c it looks like that whole side of the face just wasn't able to develop.

I know this is an old topic, but we had one born on our farm this year, and another about 5 years back. We pulled him to bottle feed him because not only was his face crooked, but both his front legs were bowed sideways and he knuckled on foot. He was also born from a set of triplets, both who were normally developed (though the one sibling died the following day after birth because she had been stuck breech and was almost impoissbly to pull out).
