Deer pox?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. We have a fawn about 2 1/2 weeks old that had come in with dry scab like bumps all over her. Along her back but not visible unless you touch her, along her head and on her muzzle. Over the past week they have become more prominant. They are dry and you can peel them off but they continue to grow and get bigger. They remind me of warts you can peel off. They don't seem to irritate her. We had a vet out and the vet was somewhat stumped, took a skin sample and her best guess is it's a deers version of goatpox. And if left alone should clear up on its own. We recently had another fawn come in but unfortunatly that fawn suffered from other health issues and didn't make it but she also had the bumps.

Anyone ever heard of this? I can't find a single thing on the internet, except for tumors and as of now they look nothing like the tumors deer can get. She is a white-tail.

Thanks a bunch.

Oh, and if you peel off the ones on her back a few pieces of hair come with them. It honestly reminds me of the bumps cats get when they get allergies to fleas, but i'm probably way off.

I tried to explain in detail the best I could.

I had a fawn with some bumps on his ears that looked like little scabs and was loosing hair on his legs. Possibly from licking them. With a phone call, my vet thought it could be a form of mange or possibly some kind of allergy. He advised giving a shot of Ivomec 1/10cc per 10lb of body weight then another shot 2 weeks later. After 1 shot it seems to be getting better. Second shot is do in a couple of days. What your fawn has does sound alot like what my fawn had. The hair came off with the scabs. He was with other fawns and they never got anything. And I'm not itching and still have my hair. Hope this helps.

thanks a bunch! I was wrong she's a black tailed deer. I took some pictures, the warty things seem to have come off her face, she still has them on her body though here's what her face looks like now the warts took the hair with it.

After seeing the pics, it could be a fungus. Mine were a little older but they got a fungus that looked like ringworm. Round patches that came off with hair on them. I used an anti fungal cream to clear it up. It took a long time but after using the cream it stopped spreading. And slowly started to heal. It doesn't look like what mine had but it won't hurt them and it could help. Don't know if anyone else has any ideas.

It is a fungal infection. A good application of Tenactin or any of the over the counter anti-fungal cremes will work wonders
