Necropsy Pic-Pneumonia ?

VERY dry in Texas pens and 80 degree days w 30 degree nights.

Am losing bottle fed doe fawns (6mo old). Opened last ones up and all organs appear normal but lungs. Please see pic (1 hr post-mortum). Is this Pneumonia and if so I am inclined to treat entire pen of 16 as it is so hard to detect well from sick ones. I am gonna say they are all good candidates for Pneu. Would have expected more yellowish pustules on lumgs if Pneu. Gave Draxxan 2 weeks ago to whole pen. Lost 3 more this week so treated all w 3cc Nuflor Sub Q. She had normal Temp and no scours or other apparent symptoms.

Have also treated water w Corid.

Please view and give advise on diagnosis, treatment and preventative.

I am not sure what you are dealing with...But watch it is easy to want to throw everything at them at once when something goes wrong...but that will do more harm then good.

Call a farm around you they may be able to talk you through things...It can be anything from changing food to....mold in hay...Giving to much corn....Ect.

You need to talk through things to see where to start.It is best to talk to somebody in your area to know exactly what is going on in your area.

I could make several GUESSES, but that is what it would be without hearing what all is going on.

How many total have you lost.Are they all in the same pen? Is all their weight good? Have you changed food... Are you giving Probiotics...Do you immunizes...If so for what and when and How much...Then you may be able to rule somethings out.... Note Everything!!

Looks more like EHD related to me. Do you vaccinate the fawns? By chance is there an irrigation system close to the pens that keeps the ground moist?

Looks like pnumonia to me-seen lots of those black spots on pigs' lungs that I've posted over the years.

These are hemmorages on the lungs. If it were not 19 degree days I would think EHD too but no Culocoid knats this time of yr. Wondered about residual or developing EHD from back in October but these hemmorages are fresh and no sign of scarring. Nor is there any sign of pneumonia like pustules or infection. Animals temp was normal at time of death.

Have shown to every deer guy, biologist and vet that I can find and only one has ever seen anything like it and he says it is Haemophilus Somnus.

I am going to call Diagnostic Lab and see that they test for that. Will let you know.

"Cactus" is bad in Texas , it can kill most of your young ones, if this is the case ...move them to another pen.

Also if you are feeding in "feed troughs" off the ground,you might wanna check for Raccoon feces, they shed millions of microscopic roundworm eggs in feed or on the ground.Becareful handling the feces....use gloves. Once inside the body ...eggs hatch and turn into larvae...and they migrate through the liver ,brain,spinal cord and other organs. When deer are affected by this !!!! They swing thier neck up and down when they are running.
