Does Anyone Know What This Is

I just got a bred doe a couple of weeks ago. She is from Ohio and I am in Florida. Her fur is coming out in in spots and she scratches herself quite a bit. I just figured it was the climate change, but now she has an open sore. It is round and it isn't in a spot where she could have done it to herself. Does anyone know what it might be? She is with a two year old buck and she is the dominant one and I don't see him doing it to her. He doesn't have any spots on him, but he has been in Florida his whole life. I am new to deer farming and I don't want her to get an infection. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

does your buck still have his antlers on

Yes. He is neutered and very tame, but it is possible he could have got her on accident.

Get some blue coat or some other antibiotic spray on her asap.Warm weather, flies will be on her.Is it in an area that she was hit with the dart??

I didn't see her darted but it is in the area that I would expect her to be darted. Right rear flank. I will get some blue coat in the morning. I didn't see it yesterday, but it was the first thing I noticed today. Thank you all for your help. I love these forums.

I would use blu-coat on the wound and give a long acting broad spectrum antibiotic like tetradure.

This is very likely from the dart impact and drug dispersal, if she can lick it it should be fine, an antibiotic spray or ointment would not hurt if she is tame enough to administer.

Pookie,

I think I just had this very same thing happen. At least the wound looks the same. I am a new farmer and about a week after Will brought me my first two does. I noticed my doe pull all the hair out in one spot on her butt, about where you want to dart one. I kept an eye on it and it finally ruptured. That’s when I called Will and told him what I was seeing. He assured me that it was from the dart, and as long as her behavior and appetite didn't change that it would heal itself. I watched it drain for a few days and it finally healed and is starting to look normal. I got them six weeks yesterday and she is doing great. Hope this helps!

I feel much better. After so many people said that it looked like where she was darted, I called the guy that I got her from and he said that's exactly where he darted her. Her appetite is good and she acts fine, I was just worried. Thank you for your help. I'm sure I will be posting again:)
