With the rise of the Mississippi River in Louisiana, the Corps of Engineers has decided to open the Morganza Floodway today to ease pressures on the levees in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. This has not been done since 1973. Within the path of the river water are several deer and exotic operations. These facilities will be inundated with 8-15 feet of water! We have been involved in the evacuation of animals from several of these facilities and it has been a major undertaking. Never before has an evacuation of wild animals on this scale been performed. We commend the efforts of these caring deer farmers and pray the water will not keep their places submerged for very long.
