This is a staph infection likely, and you need to contact a vet to get the appropriate antibiotics administered into the fawn. Likely, the mother has passed it to her fawn... Usually a DVM would do a staph test or similar to determine which bacteria is causing the infection.

will darting the mom help the fawns any? i was just out in my pens trying to dart the fawn with my blow gun and had no luck.

we have the same problem with some of our fawns we used 3/8cc of exceed,3cc of penicillin -g( 2of them in the jaw) and a 1/2 cc of baytril we didnt get one in time and lost it but have saved 3 others hope this helps

i am out of exceed right now. but i just caught the one fawn a few minutes ago and put her in the cradle and gave her 1/2cc oxytetracyclene. my vet suggested that. so i hope she will start to get better soon. thanks for the help everyone!

my vet talked to her dad, (dr.schaefer) who is a very well known deer vet in indiana, he said this is a form of foot rot. the adults will get it in their feet and the fawns get it in their mouths. just thought id update everyone on whats going on.
