hi anybody ever have a deer have there tongue hang out ? my 1 tame doe has her tongue hang out sometimes like 1/4 out is there anything i can give her to solve this from her doing this ? thanks for the help

lol I do not know what causes this, but I have seen it before. It ''seems'' to happen in an older doe and ''seems'' to be in more of the pets/docile. I've seen it 3 times in 14 years. Each time it showed up in the deer's later years, and each time it was a docile/pet deer. I haven't a clue what causes it, hopefully somebody on here does. It never negatively affected them, just made them look kinda ''stupid'' or something. lol

OR moore LIKE this! Lol This girl never got her collostrum at birth and has NO TEETH ..............But it has never effected her ability to produce NICE shooter her first son went 245" last year and had a second go 231" this year!

But on the subject of your ? I have heard about it like Mark said and have never have heard of any major problems associated with it!

Maybe someone else has!

SORRY for messin with ya!

Hope she gets better for yah!:)

I've got a two year old buck doing the same thing. Last winter I was afraid his tongue was going to get frost bite! Never seemed to bother him as he is being used for my breeder this year! Sometimes he looks like he is in full sedation still on the hoof!

I have a 4 year old buck Jake that has his tongue hanging out most of the time. He has an over bite of about 2 inches. (parrot mouth) I always thought that it hung out because he didn't have teeth where he needed them to hold his tongue in. We also call him our "special" deer.

Damage to the hypoglossal nerve, cranial nerve X.. Trauma or infection in the mouth causes damage to this nerve thus paralyzing the tongue. Do fine otherwise
