Fatal Back Injury

Has anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this?

Cauda Equina Syndrome is what I think this was???

This was a buck that showed signs of a hurt back sometime in July, seemed minor at the time. Stood kind of hunched but acted normal in every other way.

In the fall after antlers were cut, I thought it would help to have weight off but just seemed to slowly, progressively get worse with his back end getting weaker and weaker.

Finally in late December he could not stand up. Back legs were paralyzed.

Treated him with anti inflammatory and antibiotics for a week and half with no improvement. He would eat and drink but kept getting weaker and weaker.

Vet said if there were no signs of improvement after a week that he would prob not recover. I had to put him down...

These were pics I took of his back when I did some exploratory research looking for answers.

Looks like he Definitely had some type of injury. You can see the Crook in his back and several of his Spinal joint bones were larger on one side than the other.

Seems as if his back was compensating/healing from injury and cut off his nerves to his back end. I also know this because it wasn't just his back legs, he couldn't control his bowl movements or urinating. It was really sad to see a deer in that condition and I know there was nothing else I could do to help him. So trying to learn from the expierience...

Any input would be appreciated....

Thank you.
