Johnson burr removal

One of our 3 yr old bucks did not shed his burr on one side. We became concerned about infection after the velvet started growing around the burr and the other antler already 6" long - knocked down and removed the burr by chipping with hammer and chisel - infection was between burr and velvet - cleaned with peroxied and sprayed with bandage - gave antibiotics and reversed - who knows what this side of antler will look like but at least he will survive

wow. thats nuts , looks very bad, good call on your part

Bill, I performed the exact procedure 2 years ago on one of my bucks. The base grew out a little more, but surprisingly, the main beam and tines grew fairly normal but a little smaller than the other side. Keep us informed on the progress, I am always interested in uncommon occurrances in the deer world.

If that happen to you again , clean the surface with Nolvasan Solution 1/4 solution 3/4 water. Next apply a product call Tomorrow that is Cephapirin Benzathine, the company is call Fort Dodge. Then dry off and apply three coats of spray on bandage.I have done three bucks that did the same thing they did fine.Except they put some extra stuff on that side. This work great with any wound I ever work with.I do not used any peroxied on any wound, had two vets to tell me to throw that in the trash can.I used to used it all the time.Hope this help the Tomorrow come in a 10 gram tube
