I'm trying to determine a reasonable price for our breeder buck and what he would be worth for sale, along with 50 straws of semen. The buck is seven years old and was 286 at two years. He has consistently produced sons with racks in the 200's with spreads of 26+ inches at two and three years old. If anyone has any input on what a buck like this should run, I would be very thankful. If anyone is interested in the buck and has a reasonable offer I would entertain it. I am selling him only because I have a good number of does out of him. Thanks for any input. Pictured is Omaha & one of his two year old sons who was 29+ inches wide.

ddresch, He's a very sharp looking deer! He is no doubt passing on his width and is proven. Can you post his pedigree and what's Omaha score is and his beam lenght ?

Hey doug welcome to the site. Its about time you made your way over here.lol. I can say dougs farm was one of the first places i visited and bought deer from and i saw first hand what this breeder buck was doing. My concern now would be his age. I think at this point he might not bring his value as a breeder. I say list some straws and see how they do. There might be some interested. I would hate to say it but his age might put him in the market for whatever the stocker prices are. We both know that is a sad thing to say and if he was mine he would just stay the rest of his days on the farm. I'm sure he would keep on gettin it done for another farm but you know how with older age and older breedings, Even the good ones, People lose intrest. Good luck with him doug!

Computers are not my thing---much rather be working --but a buddy of mine thought this might be the best way to find out what our Omaha might be worth. Still trying to get around in here so it may take some time

Hey Doug, I love deer like Omaha! Proven Production!!!!!! I disagree with Mike on this one...............My primary focus for my farm from here on out is Width,Frame and the 2most over looked words in our business............Proven...Production...PERIOD!
Doug, I'd breed him over a hyped up younger deer with ZERO in production from him and a breeder based solely on pedigree..............Production will write ALOT more checks that you can cash...........Over a Flashy Ad!

Our goal is big wide heavy frames as well. I was very fortunate to get a buck like Omaha. I have proven to myself through production of offspring that Omaha crossed with nearly anything I have used works very well. This is one of the reasons I hate to see him go by the way side. I know he has a lot more to offer as a breeder to some other Whitetail Breeder. I have a look I am breeding for and Omaha has gotten me a lot closer to it---- I am stacking as many of those proven bucks on top of My Omaha crosses. It just takes time but I am confident we will get there.

He looks great Doug! I'll call you if I get some time, but here's a thought.....if people are concerned about his age and are worried about buying him, using him once and then worried about next year, and being out that amount of cash on a live animal, you got the semen!
What I would do is trade an interested farm for another breeder! I for one would be interrested in using him but only if I had a breeder that you liked as well.

hey Doug..........so your finially thinking about selling Omaha? Folks I have been to Dougs farm a couple of times and have purchased a couple does from him.....he is a great person to deal with.....he goes above and beyond to see that you are taken care of........I have seen Omaha in person and can assure you the pictures don't do him justice.......who ever the lucky person is that should purchase him will be very satisfied not only with Omaha but with how you are treated by Doug as well! Doug, hope all is well with you and the family.......just had two buck Fawns out of Maxine yesterday bred to Extra Gold......should make a great combination....time will tell!

Here's another thought, because I'll be in the same boat if I kept them all.......I am going to put Rolling Timber in the auction this year and see what he brings. I love him to death, but I've got some sons and daughters out of him, he'll be 4 this year and is really looking good.
I've also got some pretty awesome yearlings that will be taking his spot as a breeder.
