On October 25th there will be 12 special youth headed to southern Illinois carrying with them the hope of harvesting a whitetail deer. This will mark the 10th anniversary for the special event by the United Special Sportsman Alliance (USSA), which will again help provide a hunting opportunity for kids with critical illness and/or severe disabilities and their families.
Caring volunteers and special hunting guides from Illinois Bowhunter Society will again put their heart into helping to mentor these youth. The Illinois DNR will be scouting the Sahara Woods and setting up the blinds for the kids and their guides. Free taxidermy will be provided by taxidermists in the areas where the children reside.
Since 2003, this event in the Shawnee National Forest has touched the lives of 113 children and their families from 19 different states.
Whitetails Unlimited, Safari Club International IL Chapter, and Mathews Solocam are generously sponsoring this event. The room and board for these families will be graciously donated by Ohio Association of General Baptist Camp Oxford Youth Camp.
