Hi Paul,
Mr. H is a great, great, great deer and I really like him. In fact I was talking to Bill about him and found out we own the mother (YEA!) Pretty Boy Floyd is also a great, great, great buck. And I also really like that deer too and plan on using him.
However, with that said, neither Mr. H nor Pretty Boy Floyd even come close to the Net B&C world record. Neither will make 200 Net. It is a very difficult task to net 200. It will be fun to watch which bucks come the closest this fall.
That is great picture so its fairly easy to guess his net score. See if you agree with my guesses and then you can see the math.
First, lets say he has 30 inch beams and 48 inches of mass (both above average). Now from the picture those look real close to each other so lets say there on no deductions for side to side on those measurements. (not likely but we’ll assume that).
Now the guesses for the left side – g1-4, g2-12, g3-10, g4-7, g5-1. It looks like there are 2 extras. One is the split on the g2 (7) and the other is the kicker off of that (1). That means there are 8 inches of deductions for that side.
Now the right side – g1-4, g2-12, g3-11, g4-7, g5-3. It looks like there are 3 extras of 3, 3, and 3 which gives 9 total inches of deductions on that side.
Now the difference from side to side is g3-1, g5-2. So that’s 3 inches.
Lets add it up. Total gross typical is:
Left 4+12+10+7+1+30 (beam) +24 (mass) = 88
Right 4+12+11+7+3+30 (beam) +24 (mass) =91
Now lets give him a 25 inch inside spread. That’s 86+89+25 total or 204 Gross Typical.
Now you have to subtract the difference (3 inches) and the abnormals of (8 (right)+9 (left)) and you get 184 Net. Of course he still has some growing to do and could add some typical inches. Of course he could add deductions also.
As you can see, the 200+ net typical is REALLY REALLY a freak of nature.
But I love Mr. H. and will take a pen full like him any day! HE IS A GREAT GREAT DEER!!!
Sam
