Pen layout

Yes I think you may have it wrong....lol.......I do a pen at a time.....so we run the deer out of the pen and into the handling facility usually no more than 10 at a time......I don't have more than ten deer per pen...if I did, I would set up my handling facility so that it could handle what ever my deer pen capacity is. So with this being said, we run the deer up and you can see the wall that wraps around to the back of the facility....the deer are ran up and through there and there is a guillotine gate on the back of the facility that leads to a large room in the handling facility where they are run into......once inside there is another smaller room and there is a guillotine door between it and the larger room....we run three deer at a time into the smaller room....once in the smaller room I have a chute system that holds three deer at a time....so we load those three deer into the shoot system and do what needs to be done and then when they are released from the last chute it leads to a guillotine door on the front of the facility that is dead in line with the runway so when they come out they are headed right back down

the runway and back into the pen they started from or any pen you so choose for that matter......I hope this explains it a little better......I wish I could draw a picture and send it to you but like I said I have no idea how to do that......lol...

I kinda get the picture. However I don't have room to put 10 deer in this little building I have that's why I thought I'd run them in to another pen right by the building then they would come in the side door and into the Shute out the Shute and out the back door that's right in line with the alley. Kinda the same but not as urs. I don't have much to work with hope some day I can afford to put a small building up to handle it. It's my wife's grandma and grandpas farm we live on so I have to make due with what I have till I can get some of my own land

If I'm using an old pasture should I work it up and seed some grass or clovers? It's got a lot of dead grass and crap in it

I would put some clover and grass if it does not look good......if you have time to do it before the deer will be on it that would be perfect........

So what deer are in what pen of yours? Ages, bucks, exct. I'm going to sell mine at age 3 but want to know what deer you have penned together or are all ages in seperate pens. Hope that make since

I usually have my does split in a couple different pens.....my bucks by age with an older buck thrown in the mix to keep them all in line.....that's kind of how I do it.......no right or wrong way though...what ever works best for you......

How many does do you usually keep and how many bucks? Just trying to do the math for the first 3yrs starting with 1 bred doe having twins and the twins both having twins and down the line (if they always had twins till yr 3) till the 3rd year and I came up with about $14,000 to feed them from yr 1 all the way through yr 3 if they cost me $500 per deer/yr. would this be correct?? I'm not very mathamatical lol

Spray the area down to kill all the grasses in there and plant a good mix of clovers and alfalfa. Once grass gets too long and tough it is good only or cover for the deer.

I hink NewRockford has a mill where you can get a custom made pellet or feed mix, maybe there is a closer mill too, bulk feed is cheaper than bagged but not easier to handle and store unless you have a good bin or spot to put it

This is what AV looks like, and these pens shaped the way they are are for the most part very easy to get deer out of.

My wife works at an elevator so maybe that would be of some use. I know they don't have a mill there but I could get mixed feed from there or I could just pay my father-inlaw to empty a hopper of whatever we are combining in to a bin but that would be a big hassle when we r busy
