We r new to deer farming, so i am sorry if this is a stupid question....Is there something i can spray in the pens on the grass for the flies, THAT WONT HURT THE DEER IF THEY EAT IT! and is there any product that you know of and have used that is alright to spray directly on the deer, and if so how do you go about doing it...Again sorry if it is a dumb question...i just feel i need to do something...we use fly predators and garlic, but still no relief for these poor guys....there are dozens of them on each deer...they try to outrun the sworm of flies...but they all just fly with them......thanks so much....

I use permethrin in my pens.....my enclosures are VERY small compared to most deer farms. I bought a pressure sprayer from TSC for $20....hand pump it up and walk around spraying the barn walls, ground, fencing, everything.....if you can hit some of the deer....GREAT! aim for their back and legs....I've never had issues with it and I mix it on the heavy side......it helps but you have to do it once a week.
Same thing for me too....permethrin from TSC or you can order it online....just type in permethrin.
I'm pretty sure the Permethrin kills the fly predators if you spray it on the ground. On the deer should be ok. If you are getting the rain we're getting n Ohio, the flies are going to be BAD. We have predators, fly traps and spray what deer we can and we are loaded with flies. I feel bad for the deer. Think i'm gonna get a fogger
I certainly recommend fogging as a component of an integrated pest management system...Here's the caution flag on fogging. The most limiting factor of fogging is the particle size forming the mist...most foggers aren't effective simply because the particle size of the droplets are too heavy to remain suspended in the air for a long enough period...to maximize fogging efficacy, find a fogger, or a nozzle that atomizes the suspension being used, to reduce the size of the droplets...I recommend something around .05 microns or less...Also remember pest management is best when applied as an integrated system, rather than just component factors...utilize several vectors for full effect...good luck!
I have been fogging with 34% permethrin. Can I or should I mix PBO-8 with it. Also where is the best place to get PBO-8?
