First Fawns of 2014

I am done with the adult bred does as of today, I got a runnin wild buck and doe fawn this evening. Now it's my teenagers turn they are getting big, but this girl in particular is real close, she just turned a year old a week and a half ago. Jared Kramer, I bought this doe from you last spring, she is a big Bucky daughter and was bred by a general g buck fawn back in the last week of November. I didn't think they were mature enough, but the belly shows otherwise, what do you think? Pregnant?

Ryan his little bro looks good, getting wide. Matt thanks for posting that pic, do you still have Big Bucky? I know you were thinking about possibly selling him last year, if you still have him, how's he looking? I love his look, that's why I have this doe fawn out of him.
 
I sold him to a breeder about an hour north of here. Talked to him the other day and he said he is huge. He won't show any pictures yet.
 
Had a set of twin buck fawns last night out of Rural Kings womb sis and Toot My Horn. They aren't very famous deer but I am very thankful for the little guys. I have high confidence one of them will make a brood buck for me. They are the result of putting an Arty son on one of my best Thunderstorm doe.
 
I am done with my fawning this year. I had six live bred does.


I ended up with 7 buck fawns and 8 doe fawns. I am very happy with my new fawns.


My does are all from 300" bucks and I bred with my buck High Time. He was a 221" @ 2.


He is a nice big typical. The way he is going this year I think he will break 250" with a 7x7 main frame. All straight up typical.

Twin bucks last night by Allstar's sis out of back-up. AI was Nov 19 would have rather had them by Banjo although the back-up is a nice two year old this year by Extra Gold out of an Allstar doe. He is completely clean so far and about a 24" wide 5 by 5. If he gets the tine length he had as a yearling he will get above 190" I hope.
 
Cool Jonathan. That sounds like some exciting fawns to me.

The yearling doe I pictured at the top of this page will have her fawns this weekend I believe, she is really bagged up and starting to spend more time alone. I hope she is a good mother, last thing I want is to start a newborn on the bottle, the ones I have on the bottle now are over halfway done and going to 2 times a day soon.
 
We got zero of three on our LAP but 3 of four by cervical AI the same day. Nov 19 is very close to the natural peek of the estrus cycle here in Indiana. Both the LAP-AI doe and ******lly-AI doe were synchronized identically. They were AI by two DVM's at the same location. The LAP were done at 58hrs and the vag at 60. I am confident it was a semen issue that caused the poor conception on our LAP. We didn't AI near as many this year as in the past. In my opinion the heat cycles of older doe can be moved up earlier much more successfully than yearling doe which in the wild naturally cycle a couple of weeks after older doe.

Another thing that could be helpful to people having fawns after day 200 is fawns that are carried late by their mothers that are overdue have very long hair. The fawns we have DNA'd back to an AI sire that were born late all have been born with very long hair.
 
Bell, thank you for sharing your farm breeding info. We Ai deer in Indiana and are doing a survey to attempt to project the most successful Ai date for Indiana does. We understand not all does that are boarded at Indiana farms are from Indiana, meaning there are does from Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, pa. Etc...We are just looking for patterns
 
Indiana is very strict on importation. Farms here have few deer from states that have had a CWD case. There are some deer here that have been imported from Missouri,Iowa,Pennsylvania,and others prior to those states CWD positives that are still living here in Indiana. I would love to buy doe from Minnesota, Wisconsin and etc.but we can't because of our states strict standards. AI is now our only opportunity to pursue great genetics from these states.

It is risky putting CDR's in mature doe after Nov 1 in Indiana. Although it is rare for a doe to naturally cycle before the end of Oct here, it does happen. A doe needs 10 days to form a new cervical lining after a heat cycle if she was not bred. Wether it's a natural cycle or one facilitated with CDR's before re-CDR-ing or attempting to synchronize the doe again a period of 10 days should be waited.
 
I am sure your post made some people chuckle. I sure did. I've got about 65 squirts running around and three late bred doe yet to go. I feel like l started having fawns six months ago but it's only been a couple.

I had a giant buck fawn born this past Tuesday, he was a result of a last year doe fawn giving birth. I have one more pregnant teenage doe, then I am finally all done.
