In the old forums my user name was "luvfaline" for those that remember me :) I posted an earlier topic reg "ringworm". I really need advice. Faline had a spot on her ear which has healed - still bald but it healed. Nina now has 5 spots of ringworms - the one on her face is draining puss. The 4 on her ears are in the "pimple" stage. I am cleaning her with blu-kote and Faline is licking it off. I am afraid it is going to pass back and forth between them - and get worse! What can I apply to clear it up quickly and is there anything orally that I can give to them to stop the cycle? Thank you in advance!

Gail:confused:

try ivomec plus sub q 2 cc - that will probably help

if orally you might try ivomec pour on on some feed - let it dry 4 hrs and then feed - not per label but works

Gail, maybe Scott has some experience with ring worm. I have not treated any nor have I seen any on the deer I`ve been around. Sorry I can`t help ya with is problem. Hope ya get some good advise here. I`ll be watching also to see treatments that have been used.

I will def post pics tomorrow. Too dark outside to get a good image - but it's not pretty :( My poor babies.

Thanks Mitch! I was hoping once Faline got over her case that would be the end of it. Of course it was on my mind about it being contagious - but hoped and prayed it would not spread over to Nina. She got it the worst :( I just want to kiss on her - but no way hosay!

Gosh ringworm hardly ever drains puss but anything is possible . Tincture of Iodine mixed with an equal part of glycerin works great as will a mixture of drain oil and coppersulfate or drain oil and yellow sufer. When you treat ringworm be sure to work the Iodine down in the lesion scaping off most of the scabie looking material . Even Koppertox has worked pretty well in the cattle . Just a thought !!

Here are some pics of the ringworms. As I said before, Faline had a spot on her ear which appears to be healing - clearly you can see where the scab used to be. Nina on the other hand has about 4 maybe 5 forming on her ears - pic is a little blurry but you can see the "bumps". The one on her face looks yucky - it is purple around the edge because I have been applying blu-kote antiseptic. You can see the yellow discharge in the center. This stuff makes me nervous - I don't want a crazy outbreak!

Why not use antifungal spray from Wal-mart? I'm sure your deer will let you put it on her. TMI but I have a very hot, filthy job in the summertime, and Equate brand antifugal spray takes care of just about anything I have in a two-day period.

I may be wrong!!! but I think it may be Two different things...Its hard to tell from pictures...Can you give a shot of ivemec if not the pour on would work...if it is a louse or lice type bug...Also I would try putting betadine on them several times a day.

or you could try M-T-G for Fungus and rainrot and dry skin in horses...

Why do you think ring worm?...I have never seen ring worm swell and get puss with out it drying cracking then getting infected...but not puss under the skin which looks like what I see on the ear...Sorry it is hard to help without seeing...You may need to scrape it and have your vet test it... if there seems to be a big problem or it doesn't get better real soon.

Best of luck

Gail, what you have there is not ringworm. It is a bacterial infection that causes the sores. The shape is round, but that is about all you have in common with ringworm. You need to give them 3 doses of Tetradure. 3cc every 3 days for 9 days. Treat the sores with a topical antibiotic spray or creme, not a petroleum based ointment. Ringworm is not unheard of in deer, but it is not that common either.

What causes a bacterial infection and is it contagious? I just can't imagine what could have caused this.

That doesn't really look like ringworm to me either. I've seen it in cattle, didn't look like that. Search the internet for some pics of ringworm on cattle and see if you don't agree.

Thank you NYDoe. I guess I was thinking ringworm because of the shape (perfect circle) and the crusty layer - which fell off. BUT - on my youngest it looks a little different with the oozing. I treated her with LA200 so if it is a virus the anitbiotic should take care of that.
