I'm new at raising deer my year old doe is holding her ear down and is shaking her head when I touch it. Cleaned some dry wax out of it. Can anyone help me?

Here is what I found doing a general search. Sounds like it might be your problem.

7) Ear Mites

Ear mites are quite common in kids if the adults are infected. When they scratch their ears and shake their heads at an early age, they should be examined and treated with a miticide. The infected ears often show a scaly, grayish material in the ear canal. The mites can be seen easily when the material is examined with a magnifying glass on a piece of black cloth.

Good luck!

We have a few with drooped ears.

Holly, How would I treat bucks that are kinda wild, If I can at all.

Hey Jay Don- Ivomec works on ear mites. If you can't run them thru the shoot or catch them right now:

- You could try the injectable on their feed or in their water (my bottle babies drink it with no issues whatsoever)

- You could try to hit them with a blow dart of injectable

- You could try the poor-on with a good spray applicator and try to get it on their backs

For pwatson- I would get a miticide from your vet since it sounds like you can handle your doe and do the recommended treatment on the label.

I can handle her lift her feet wash them off so she can come in the house rub her all over she is my baby I call her my first. I got two more fawns this spring love them make great pets. Can I use the same thing that I would use on my dogs ears? The wax does not seem to be grayish more yellow.
