Can someone give me a breakdown of this years hunt prices?

120" and under

121"-129"--?

130"-139"--?

140"-149"--?

150"-159"--?

160"-169"--?

170"-179"--?

180"-189"--?

190"-199"--?

200"+--?

I used a Oklahoma based hunt website to get some prices, and was rudely call "Crazy". I dont want a bunch of crap about the goverment and regulations. I want the prices for what deer are being shot for RIGHT NOW.

Has anybody figured out how to raise a 180" buck, and sell him for $1500 and make money?

Our prices have droped with the economy like it is.

120" - 159" - 1500.00

160" - 169 - 2500.00

170" - 179 - 3500.00

180" - 189 - 5500.00

190" - 199 - 7500.00

200" - + - 8500.00-& UP

The only way you can do that for 1500.00 and make money is if they or raising them there self and then they want make much.

Just what I got this year. Can't not sell them. I know it hurts the cause, but had to let them go...

I know the economy is bad but that's crazy to sell that cheap. Why stay in business? Wait it's not a business. A business has to make money. Bad economy or not I still think there are plenty of hunters. If you treat your clients good they will come back. You shouldn't have to cut your prices in half. Shoot less then and make money.

I can't afford to keep feeding overage through the winter, and for every 10 that I don't sell and try to keep one more year, one is likely to commit suicide or die from some other crazy event. Add the additional cost in keeping him one more year, and it just makes sense to move them. I can't quit because it is too fun and still learning too much to call myself any kind of expert (entering my 7th year of farming), plus the deer are making good genetic improvements so deer are getting bigger each year. That's why I stay in business. Oh, and I don't owe anything on the deer or the farm, so breaking even and having fun while doing it might seem "crazy" but well worth it to me. Just my opinion...

That seems to be the only thing to do now!!! If you can break even and have a blast doing it i say go for it.There are way to many deer now and way to many being bred this year and that will make to many for next year....and on and on and on!!!! Enjoy your deer and pay the grain bill seems to be the only thing to do!!!!!

Thats what I will do. I have 10 more acres to fence, to turn more out. We enjoy it, its still a hobby, and I will not give my deer away. Sorry. Oh, and the other day I watched a show on TV that said the "deer business" is BOOMING, and and my first words were ........never mind.

Antler Valley, Your prices are OK..... I might consider some of those..?

I got a 225 in buck asking 6500 for and one buyer said that to much. But I looked his web sit his 200 in hunts start at 14000 thats what wrong. They tell the hunters what it cost for a hunt. and they tell the farmer what they will pay for the deer.thats what is wrong they have the best of both worlds. We sould have our price set and thats what they pay. but we cant do that, so we just under cut the next farm so we can sell or deer.

Still have all my shooters just waiting for some one to give me a fair price. I feel a fair price is roughly half of what one sells a hunt for. If anyone needs some good bucks and are willing to pay a fair price give me a call 814-758-6557 they can go anywere fully tested.

I would not sale for less than 1/2 the hunt price. You are not helping yourself selling for that price. If you think your coming out ahead and fellow deer farmers have to hold their stock they will still be there next year. Suppose they decide to sell cheap next year and you have to hold yours. This becomes a perpetual problem for the breeders. The market is oversupplied but this does not mean you should sell for a loss.

The preserves are not giving the hunts away. They may have reduced the price a little but not to the extent were seeing for stock. I would venture to say most of them would not sell for a loss and shouldn't. If the market is thirty percent overstocked then we should eat thirty percent of our stock!

That's all well and good if everyone did that but who's gonna be the first to eat their 30%. Law of supply and demand has to dictate prices. Unfortunately, farms are taking it on the chin and preserves are to benefit from shrinking stocker purchase prices.

What would happen if more preserves opened? Would it raise the value of stockers or lower the cost of hunts? Maybe a little of both?

I hope I am wrong but if the situation does not change quick many of us will be eating what we thought was valuable animals. The thing that puzzles me is most farmers are continuing to grow the number of animals and the economy is going to take years to absorb the loss of jobs. What sense does this make. Personally I think it is the right time to improve the quality of my herd but not expand the herd. So what do I do with the older does? They are beginning to look like hamburger and backstaps eventhough it is going to be hard to swallow! I may not be the first but I doubt I will be the last either.

Thats just it.People say dont sell cheaper and get what you can get and then you have others that are breeding a massive amount of doe. This will be an on going thing..I dont think its so much the ranches problem as they are still selling for good prices and the farmer fakes the hit.If everyone took a hit and bred less then the animals would not be flooded for the next 5 years. It's gunna be the farmer that takes the hit either way.You sell them cheaper or you drag them out of the pen......It sucks but its our choice!!!

let me just ask why is it so easy for some to sell and others not? Name? ok how do we as individual deer farmers get a name for your selves? Advertise? ok cant afford to advertice what about word of mouth, good old fasion cold calling. You cant just raise deer put a picture up and wait for people to bang on the door. Get out there. in a down market now is the time to advertise now is the time to buy good genetics at good cost. If the prices of two years ago didnt happen we all would be happy to get what we could out of our deer.

We cant keep doing what we have always done and expect the market to come to us or to even expect things not to change. We all must adapt and overcome if we want to make it. Those who choose not to will be left by the way side.

Sorry if i offended any, just my opinion, wish you all the best and here is to keep moving forward

You can advertise all you want!!!The issue is not if you can sell,Its what you have to sell for.Alot of people have great deer and cant get even close to what they are worth and there are so many stocker bucks that the price is not even close to their worth. Its gunna be a long haul thats for sure and you have to do whats best for your farm and people will sell for lower prices to move animals and then that will become the norm and the prices will stay low for years to come.I feel sorry for anyone that bet the farm and spent lots of cash to get into this deer thing but we do have to move forward!!!!!
