Approx. $ 2,788,110.00 Total.

Yup and some say the industry is lacking. Chupps sale at 1.3 and Top 30 at 2.8 million. Now take just 1% of those sales and how much would we have towards lawyers fees, blood test research and such.  I really think we are missing the boat here and i really wish someone would take a step to make this happen.

I dont believe there would be to many in our industry complain about donating 1% of a sale.  There would be no choice if you wanted to be part of the industry.  It works for other livestock producers and it would work for us!

Mike,

I'm with you on this but it might need a little more than 1% that's only $28,000 from the top thirty I think maybe five percent would be more realistic and still reasonable for everyone!

I agree that would be better but with us having what 6,7,8 sales a year. Then whitetails exchange weekly auctions.  Yes 5% would really help us throw some numbers up fast for industry saving needs!  There is no reason this cant be implemented. No choices, You raise deer. You join the club. We all sell stuff and 5% of your sale to know your lifes love and your business is pretty cheap insurance. I think ACA or NADEFA should put this into place. Make it legal and make it so a certin percent of all members would have to agree on something before any monies are spent on something!

My only concern and don't take this the wrong way would be greed! We all know what money does to people and I'm afraid that if you don't have enough to influence people, well to be frank they won't get on board! This is just my opinion but I too have thought that our national organizations should implement other things too!!! And I'm afraid my Bull dog bark might not have enough chihuahua butt "aka cash" to matter!

You dont give them a choice. They in the deer bizz they pay the cut. We have 7 sales a year without the exchange and i bet we do close to 7 million in sales and probably much more. How much is 5% of 7 million. As you can see. I would not be the pen pusher.  I mean right now we need 125 grand for the blood research. That should be a drop in the hat for us!

We all know a lot is not real money but if it was collected just like the auction companies commission, it would not matter. Another thought would be for NADEFA or ACA to put on an auction and use the 7-10% commission or even more. Either way, great prices at the auction.

Mike,

I don't understand where the additional percentages are going to come from?  Do you mean a percentage of everyone's sales? Do you mean a percentage of sales at auction only?  I'm not sure the Average producers could give up another 5% of sales profit. For the average guy the sales profits seem slim as is. I mean feed costs, testing fees, vet fees, drugs/darting, grounds maintainance/improvemnets, organazational dues, advertising, time(labor). Seems to me it might be more struggle than its worth just to raise a few deer, and maybe not break even. I'm not bashing anyone's ideas. I just need more details of what you had in mind.

I wish I had a better idea that I could propose, one that is fair for everyone. Hopefully some other ideas will transpire from this discussion.

RyanM84896841389458132

How much of this is real money???

You bet ya and this would also rid the industry of these false prices that show false progress. If it goes down as a say $5000 dollar sale then that farmer pays whatever percent to the fund. If they want to throw around false sales and prices then someone will pay for it.  We all know this practice goes on and it sure does not help the industry as a whole. Maybe blows up a few farms look that really should not be blown up but does not help as a whole.

Zane, I sure dont have all the answers and i know some may think that i dont care but i am young into this business and i know there are a bunch of young guys on here that just started out, spent alot of money and have great foundations for long term successful deer farming  .I plan on it for the long haul!   In the very short time i have been in i have learned one thing and that is that 90% of the people are going to sit back and let 10% of the people do the work and foot the bill.

I know there will be a little more burden on all of us if we take a few dollars of the top of each sale but whats on the other end if we dont? Remember..90% will watch and let it fall if it does.  I think we are at a point where its time to stop giving choices. You want to be in its going to cost us all something.  Look at the beef check off. I think they take like  $1.50 off each auction sale animal and it goes to keep them covered for whatever needed.

We need like $125.000 to fund this blood test for a year. If you look at our last 2 sales alone there were 4 million dollars that changed hands. Really. 2 or 3% off the top really going to do any hurt. We are talking the price of lunch here.  I just really think this would get money in our coffers somewhere without NADEFA saying they did this or ACA saying they did that. We need both of these groups to lead us in the right direction but when it comes to money and the prices we get for our livestock i just think WE ALL need to do just a bit more and get whatever it takes done to prove once and for all what our animals are and prove once and for all where our place is when it comes to living with CWD on both sides of the fence!
