I have a 4 month old doe fawn that is losing weight.  She has been wormed with cydectin, safe guard and valbazen with no change.  She eats good, acts normal but continues to lose weight.  She is one of eight fawns and the rest are growing like weeds.  Any ideas?
 
I had one doing the same thing.  Thought she must need antibiotic but it did not help.  I put in the chute and gave her a big dose of fawn paste to re-activate her rumen.  Not sure why the bacteria in her stomach was depleted and I am sure the antibiotic didn't help.  A few days after the fawn paste she was a new deer.

No stool sample but wormed regular. She has never had antibiotics before. She got I cc of each of the wormers. Each wormer was followed hup ten days later. I will try the fawn paste.
 
If she was on my farm we would give her 3cc Ivormectin + at the start of a Full Moon and Fawn Paste also as Bill said

Wayne what is at the start of a full moon?
 
Ryan, Worms are more active when a Full moon is on the rise! Weird I know but Vet and Many neighbors all swear by it. We also wean our Fawns by the sign of The Moon in The Old Farmers Almanac .....................Try it sometime and see for yourself it makes a difference?

As far as I am concerned, the bible would be the most important book and the almanac would be the next. Most of my fawns are always born right around the full moon. I plant with my almanac in my pocket.
 
Brett, I AGREE my Mother did EVERYTHING with what the Moon Signs were! Teeth pulled,Hair cut,Plant, Wean,Butcher..................It makes a WORLD of difference on the results you reap! :)

Is she bloated? The ones that I have seen in the past had rough coats and lost weight as if they were wormy. A good strong probiotic to "reset" the rumen has helped in the past. Don't know why they bloat. The only thing that I can think of is that there is not enough "good" bacteria in the rumen to digest the food; so it sits there in their stomach.

She is not bloated. Her coat is rough and the hair is bristled. She is skinny as a rail. Gave her paste. Hope it works. well how is your lil girl doing?

She is somewhat better. Not gaining much weight but eating like a horse.


just and idea if ya could.... We had our lil girl get loose from too many treats at least that's what I blamed it on. We stopped the treats and gave a large amount of fresh Honeysuckle cuttings daily for a week. And by weeks end we had her giving us those perfect little smart pellets again!
