Asking this for a friend. He has a 4 wk old bottle raised fawn that has slowed and now stopped feeding. He states that the fawn looks as if it is full not bloated but is heavy looking deep in the mid section. Not dehydrated yet the fawn did feed this morning some.

Hope someone has experienced this and has a remedy. If you need more information just ask what else you would want to know.

My experience with fawns stop feeding are:

1. beginning of pneumonia

2. coccicidia

Both cases I have been schooled on and as soon as a fawn stops eating I am on alert.

Last year I had one stop feeding, I would give it some fawn paste then it would be fine for a couple day's and stop again.(this was a 7 day old fawn) Finaly I added probiotics in the bottle and had no more problem's. Since then I started mixing 1 teaspoon to every gallon of milk and as of yet no problem's. 2 years back I had an older fawm slow way down on the bottle and her breathing was not right, I gave her a shot of Draxxin and that took care of her. Now if it is Coccicidia and not the start of Pneumonia you can buy the powder to treat that at just about every farm store.

It could be an obstruction and easy to tell by monitoring bowel movements. If the priobotics dont work, try 1/4 tsp baking soda mixed with 6cc water for a drench. The full looking heavy belly could also be a bad sign of twisting or rupture so you might need a vet to look at it. I'd offer straight water for at least 24 hours and see if the fawn is more receptive to milk the next day and even then they may not finish the full bottle feeding for a couple of times.
