A "Favorable" Story about Deer Farmers

I only wish our IDEFA B.O.D. here in Indiana would have had the wherewithal to have pursued legislation like this in our state that would have moved our states agricultural deer farms and hunting ranches from DNR control and jurisdiction to our B.O.A.H's oversight. We were told by the judge in Rodney Bruce's lawsuit victory against the State of Indiana that the DNR in fact does NOT have jurisdiction over our privately owned deer on our high fenced private property. This ruling gave us a position of strength from which we should have negotiated! Yet our IDEFA BOD refused to submit legislation that reflected the judges ruling though the judge tossed them a carrot and though my Dad pushed the board to pursue this kind of legislation the majority of the board still refused and wanted to keep the DNR in charge. We are blessed with a republican business friendly governor along with a republican majority in both our house and senate yet SB404 was the best bill our IDEFA legislative committee could produce. The senate bill they came up with is posted and can be read on this forum under latest files. Furthermore, I have seen it written by industry leaders that we in Indiana almost passed our IDEFA bill and only missed doing so by one vote when truthfully by the time SB404 was amended and went for final vote it had become the DNR's bill. Is this really the best our leaders can loquaciously gloat about in their letters or come up with??? I wish those who worked diligently on SB404 would have been putting their time and effort into the type of legislation you all are pursuing. Dad and I are very thankful SB404 didn't pass. You all in Missouri are fortunate to have a board of directors who aren't afraid. Let them know they are appreciated!!!. If you come to Indiana and watch our "fraidy cats" negotiate then you will head home westward with a new appreciation for the board of directors leadership you have in your state win or lose!

Missouri deer farmers you have my admiration and support!

As long as the current board is in place nothing will ever happen to support the Indiana deer farmers . Do you stand up for what is right? Or do you go down with the ship? I know one thing I'm smart enough to jump off the ship rather than drown. As soon as the association is approved

The people of Indiana will have a place to voice their concerns and be heard . This industry is much bigger than just a Breeder market but that is what is controlling this industry. It's time for the producers of this industry to stand up And have a say in our destiny.

I said three years ago when we were drafting the bill that we needed to put some rules and regulations on the bill to show the legislators we were serious about what we were wanting to do.

Jerri Lee,

We need to all work together breeders, producers, and hunting ranches. We should be reminded of the little kids song " if we all pull together, pull together how happy we'll be, but if we all fight each other then how sad we will be"

I am on vacation and I am going to our IDEFA board meeting with Dad tonight with a few copies of Missouri's legislation. Gonna tell those there "Look at this. These guys have got some hair on their chest, look at it"!

It will be like throwing punches in the wind. They have their club the way they want it and let your dad stay on there so somebody else has one voice. One out of 12 isn't going to go anywhere.

Thank you for going and saying what you are going to say. It would be okay if everything was on the table but there are too many things going on behind the scenes. There are bylaws for a reason it's a shame they do not know how to use them .

I had to send another letter to the Missouri legislation. It included this picture of my son. This was on the wall for his kindergarten graduation as what he wanted to be when he grows up. My business partners daughter had the same thing. Maybe it will put some things in perspective for them.

That is super cool.

And there should never be anything to stop that from happening.

I truly believe we will stand as one before the end and win this fight.

Your children and any others that has this dream should have the opportunity to do so.
