A Letter from Johnny Morris, Owner of Bass Pro

Here is a link to the letter Johnny wrote to the Missouri Legislation. I have lived near Springfield, MO my whole life and spent a lot of money with Bass Pro. After reading the letter, I have spent my last dollar with them. When I find someone unsupportive of my family, I refuse to support them.

I know this is linked in another post, but I thought it was important enough to have its own post.

Areed 100%.  I sent bass pro an email last night.  I have a bass pro shop near me also.  I explained to bass pro that they would never recieve any business from me or anyone I could influence in the future.  This is my land, my deer and my business and I will protect it.  I have not received a reply.

I honestly dont see how deer farming hurts their business. If anything it encourages business for them. All they are doing is driving a wedge in the already shrinking hunting population. They should be rallying ALL hunters together to keep hunting alive and well.

Bass Pro needs to hear from us, but I will continue to shop there in hopes that we can combine the segments made in the hunting industry. We need positive publicity from deer farmers. I think a dividing battle weakens both parties.

Dont think me naive because I hope to "change the world", but maybe we can somehow turn the perception of deer farming. What can be done to  achieve that?

Johnny the Jackass!!!!  No more bass pro here either!!!!

Money buys influence.  Votes control elected officials.

If they are hit in the pocket book for their stance, they will change their attitude.  If the american public, especially conservatives, will get involved in politics we can kick their self serving asses out!  The elected officials that voted against the farmers in Missouri should be targeted.  Pound the streets and ask people not to vote for them.  Choose a canidate to back and let him know why you are backing him.  The politicians don't believe they will be voted out over this issue or they would not have voted that way.  Prove them wrong and you will be noticed.

Brett

I couldn't agree more! Don't just threaten the politician that your going to get him out of office. They laugh at that because they hear it all the time. Generally people don't really fight back. These politicians will be shaking in their boots when they become aware you all are going to replace them especially when they are blind sided in a primary. They will know its for real when it starts to happen. I would email Bass Pro and let them know you and your family won't be back in their stores and that you will be letting every person close to you know not to patronize their stores and you will also be telling those people to let their friends know to do the same. Our outdoor families and the people we are connected too are the people who spend money in their stores. They will feel it if we spread the word. Everyone will be pleasantly surprised at the difference they have made by actually trying to make a difference.

We did a raffle here in pa, to help support our pa picnic and a few other things..... One of the prizes....... A $100 bass pro shop gift card....TALK ABOUT A SLAP IN THE FACE!!!!! I'm so pissed He will be getting an email from me for sure!!

We have a gun raffle here in Indiana to raise money for Indiana's deer farming association. We buy all of the guns from Cabelas. We have also given them advertising in the calendars in which the guns are raffled. They have been supportive of us. We should all support them.

'times new roman'Why does bass pro shop think they are an authority on deer farming? It is obvious that Mr Morris knows nothing about CWD from his comment. This is an agriculture and land owner rights issue. Since Bass Pro feels compelled to get involved, I will be getting involved against bass pro. I own a hunting preserve and deer farm. I have bought thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from you every year.
medium 'times new roman'In the future I will not spend a dime in your store. Furthermore, my friends, family, employees and clientele will be asked not to patronize your business. You should learn the facts before you choose your side. The deer farming industry is a lot bigger than you think. We will be sure to notify every deer farmer in the US about your stance.

Our clientele are the high end hunters who spend a ton of money in your store. I talked to one this morning and he bought $15,000 worth of gift certificates from you last year for his employees. He has already promised to shift that to Cabela's or Academy. You are not the only game in town!

Then explain this to me . If the oversight of all game animals fall under the dept of conservation ,Then why is it ok for people to raise pen raised birds, Quail , Pheasants, Chukars( Game birds) and raise them in captivity, Sell them to a buyer, The buyer then places the birds in coveys of 4 or 6 in a field before shooters arrive and then shoot captive raised game birds and it be ok?? Or even a tower shoot. How sportsman like is that???

Next question why can state game officials constantly trap and move deer and elk in and out of state without a permit, no testing and yet the deer farming agribusiness industry test 100% and has to get travel permits, shots, etc.. Is that right. Hell no it is not.

Lastly Mr Bass pro owner who is in bed with the QDMA bunch( Questionable deer management asso) Mentioned losses to revenue. I guess he is not educated enough to follow the recorded stats of deer losses from EHD the past few years and areas that have not recovered yet. EHD does not get the press and media attention it is supposed to, Why, Because states don't really want those numbers getting out as it directly affects out of state hunters coming into the state and stopping at his store and also loss of revenue to the communities where the sportsman hunt in. Not to mention the loss of revenue to the state for drops in licence sales.  Boycott Basspro and shop on line or support your local community sporting goods shop.

There is no doubt that the constant fear mongering about disease by the QDMA and the likes of Ryan Salabalow has been an influence on the next generation potentially not heading to the woods to hunt. In Indiana the DNR stopped selling lifetime hunting licenses under the auspices that they were losing revenue because each time a yearly license is sold they also got a payment from the federal government. A grandpa or a parent can no longer buy a lifetime hunting license for a grandchild as a gift. This removed a lot of the next generation from the woods. PETA and the HSUS has come to the realization they can't end hunting by changing all the laws immediately. They have gotten college degrees and pursued influential positions in our departments of conservation so they can set policy. Johnny Morris is blind to this and why people are leaving the outdoors to pursue more progressive things. Many sporting good store's hunting and fishing merchandise inventories have shrunk while more soccer balls and sit down while you pee gear has arrived for boys and men. Next thing they will say is if no one is hunting so why do we need such big guns then any guns. These wacky conservation groups are where communist minded wackos have found their home. Johnny Morris is not preserving a tradition he is facilitating its end.

Dear Mr. Morris,

I am disappointed to see that Bass Pro has recently lobbied to Veto the Ag Bill in the state of Missouri.  I understand that your biggest and only concern was that of deer farming and hunting preserves in  Missouri.  I am a corn and soybean farmer from Iowa and owned a Hunting Ranch in Iowa as well.

It is clear from your website that you have chosen to support the HSUS and CWD fear mongering activists and in the process turned your back on a great number of hunting and farming patrons.  Just two years ago we outfitted our hunting lodge with a number of your home furnishing including leather furniture, bedding, and miscellaneous items from your store.

Unfortunately, you have not been informed of the research and money that the captive cervid industry and the USDA have dedicated to CWD in an attempt to better understand the disease, how it is spread, and more importantly to develop a non-lethal CWD test and possibly a vaccine.   I am not aware of any money for research and development for CWD that the Missouri Department of Conservation or the HSUS has dedicated in hopes of finding a vaccine or live animal tests.

Where do you think many of the fish that swim in our lakes and streams come from . . . . our Department of Natural Resources has their own fish hatchery.  Because these fish are reared in aquariums and fish ponds, are you going to lobby to put them out of business?  How about the pheasant preserves helping to restore the population in the wild, maybe you would like to see the put out of business as well?

Just yesterday, I was traveling down the interstate a truck and trailer loaded with four wheelers and huge coolers passed me on their way to hunt out west.  Quite possibly they were headed to hunt in CWD endemic areas only to drag their carcasses home and dispose of them in the local ditches.   Are you aware if the Missouri Department of Conservation intends to have check stations this fall to check the coolers and disinfect the four wheelers?

Not sure if you are aware, but Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota, a high fenced national park, tore down the fences in 2013 and released 500 CWD exposed elk into the wild of Custer Park.  These animals had been exposed to positive findings of CWD for 15 years.  Out of 140 CWD tests from Wind Cave, 45 were positive.  Does this seem like good management to you and your employees???

I have attached a copy of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) recent attempt to control the spread of CWD in Canada.  Remember, what happens in Canada will not stay there.  If this happens in the United States you can rest assured that the only whitetails you will find roaming the agricultural lands in our country will be behind fence, those that are actually monitored and tested and, hopefully one day, vaccinated for CWD.

Before you take a stand such as this, I would hope you are better informed.  As an American citizen, we are allowed to choose how to hunt and where we hunt as long as it is in accordance with the law.  You should know this better than anyone AND you should support all hunting in this country.

Sincerely,

Rhonda Brakke

I already reached my quota for positive votes for the day. Well done everyone!

I have been a bass pro customer for over 30 years. I called 1800 bass pro today and asked them to take me off of their mailing list and made sure they knew it was because of their stance on deer farming in Missouri. Let's all give them a call and ask to be taken off their mailing list and tell them you will never do business with them again as long as their stance stays the same on Missouri deer farming.

If every deer farmer would start to speak out you would see attitudes change in a hurry.  The American public has the lazy disease.  This type of stuff can be stopped.  We do not have to be ran over by self serving business or politicians.

You can not buy shoes anymore that are made in America.  What would happen if people started walking into the stores and asking "do you have American made shoes?" and left when the answer was no.  You can bet within weeks they would be making shoes in America. If you don't like the way things are going, stand up and fight!

Check this out!!!

They are hearing us.
